Chesapeake Search Dogs is holding our biggest party of the year!! This year we choose Conrad Ruth Villa located in Bowleys Quarters on the beautiful Middle River. Bring the whole family for a day full of music, food, games, and fun . We are 100% volunteer organization and all proceeds will go to fund our mission of helping families find their loved ones. We work directly with local law enforcement to locate the lost and missing. We are hoping you can join us!

Chesapeake Search Dogs trains dogs for 4 specific disciplines:

Area Air Scent Search: This is the location of a lost/missing individual in an area. Sometimes also referred to as “wilderness” searching, that is not its only application. Typically the dogs are worked off lead and are trained to find generic human scent. Areas can be as small as a building and as large as 100 acres. The dogs are trained to search for scent for as long as 4-6 hours on a task. The impact of this type of search is that a large area can be covered in a relatively short amount of time with the least amount of resources needed. Ten dogs can search 1,000 acres in four hours.

Human Remains Detection: This is the location of human remains. These dogs are often referred to as “cadaver dogs.” In this discipline, a dog is trained to recognize and be able to pinpoint the 6 specific scents of human decomposition in order to assist authorities in recovering human remains.

Swift Water Rescue/Recovery: This is the location of subjects injured or deceased in a flooding situation or river accident. Dogs trained in this discipline are specifically qualified to search a river bank/water’s edge or from a boat in turbulent conditions. The handlers are specially trained for safety in this environment.

Article Detection: This is the location of human scent on any article. Dogs are taught to distinguish as to whether or not an article has recently been touched by a human and contains human scent. This discipline is very valuable to police agencies in the search for evidence.
