The Maiden & The Crone is an ongoing series, that began in 2020. It pulls inspiration from classic tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and other parables and mythologies, in which female characters are often depicted as young and vulnerable, or old and wicked. This body of work critiques the societal and literary tropes that have been imposed upon women over the centuries, and still exist within our discourse today.

This ongoing series combines 2D mixed media, sculpture, wearable art and performance to employ these narratives.

“In Memoriam” is a visual journey through loss and grief. This living alter piece reflects upon Victorian practices of honor and remembrance for the dead, known as the Mourning Period. “In Memoriam” is loss, grief, memory, and an attempt to continue to move forward through the pain. It is through loss that we must allow ourselves to grow, or succumb to despair.

On Love & Consumption is an ongoing body of mixed media works and performance that plays on a kitsch aesthetic and a maximalist approach that critiques higher social classes and gender through satire and dark humor. Using the historical archetype of Marie Antoinette, reimagined with a modern twist, I examine the current state of late stage capitalism and its parallels to the French Revolution in terms of wealth inequality and economic oppression, coupled with the seemingly insatiable appetites of the upper crust.

My installation "In Memoriam" is on view in conjunction with Midsommer through August.

I want to share a huge heartfelt thank you to Bischoff Inn, Gardenship Art, ArtLab Gallery and Frontline Arts for providing me time, space, and access to their resources for bringing this performance and installation to life through the various stages since its inception in March.

I developed the initial sketch concept during my 2-week residency at Bischoff Inn. From there, I was able to utilize the print studio at Frontline Arts to fill my installation space with intaglio prints.

Then during my 7 day video residency at Gardenship Art's IN7 I filmed my short film "In Memoriam".

All of this work came together in a full sized multimedia installation at ArtLab Gallery in Mendham NJ, on view through August, alongside their summer exhibition Midsommer.

Updates from Christy's Studio: So Much is Happening this Spring! 🎨 It is shaping up to be a busy spring! I will be participating in two residencies, working on an art installation and video project that will be on view, later on in June. This was a great morning exercise....I'm hoping I can continue this practice maybe twice a week; I did find it to be a little exhausting believe it or not; not used to drawing so much.... this week pulled a lot of inspiration from our collaborative application along with imagery from other artists and themes I've seen before.... would love to create a performance piece into this but I really need to work on how to build it more fully into my own

I go home tomorrow with lots of inspiration and ideas....
