Are you struggling with chronic upper shoulder or neck pain and tension?😩 This is a very common complaint and especially prevalent in those with jobs requiring static posture such as desk work or inactivity in general. 🧑🏻💻 Your first inclination might be to stretch your neck and shoulders. And there is a time and place for that. However, studies are showing that moderate and progressively challenging resistance exercises to strengthen the shoulders, including the trapezius, deltoids and rhomboids, leads to greater reduction in pain. The exercises listed below and demonstrated in the video are included in the studies shown here.Try these exercises with this dosage and let us know if your discomfort decreases: Reps: 10-12. Sets: 2-3x. Frequency: every other day. Weights should be moderate with fatigue by 10-12 reps. 🏋️♀️🏋️♀️🏋️♀️ 1. Shoulder Shrugs 2. Front Arm Raises 3. Side Arm Raises 4. Rotator cuff impingement is a very common condition that we see here at Invivo Wellness Physical Therapy. Pain develops in the front of the shoulder when the chest muscles become tight and the muscles on the back of the shoulder and between the shoulder blades become weak. Imagine quintessential poor posture from slouching and or working on a computer. However, this same muscle imbalance can occur in very active people who perform a lot of pushing movements, such as pushups, planks and overhead presses without equally training their pulling muscles. One element of treating this in physical therapy using therapeutic exercises, such as those shown in the video here. The other portion is using skilled, hands on, manual therapies to release tight and shortened tissues, decompressing the shoulder joint and addressing any neck dysfunction that occurs because of the tension and pain in the shoulder. If you can relate to this, come see us. You deserve to feel better and to be pain free. Take care of the nagging pains before they turn into more severe injuries. *This video is not meant to be a substitute for medical care* 1. Side lying shoulder external rotation 2. Squatting is one of the most basic, important, and functional movements that we perform on a daily basis. Anna, one of our Physical Therapists, and Rob, a Personal Trainer demonstrate some basic variations here. Really, you should try these at home. And stay tuned for for some more advanced squats coming later this week. #physicaltherapy #functionalmovement #invivowellnessmke #functionalmovement #squats #getoutofyourchair

It shouldn’t hurt or feel stiff on either side! Pain doesn’t have to be debilitating before being addressed. Take care of the little discomforts before they become a bigger problem. #ichoosemywellness #supportlocal #invivomke #invivowellness #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #physicalactivity #movementismedicine
