Please consider a gift of ANY size to help eradicate only the second disease from the planet. Rotarians started this effort in the mid 80's and we anticipate eradication by 2026. Be a part of this by giving any gift that will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A $10 gift becomes $30, a $50 gift becomes $150 and so on...Please help our club make a difference in the world. Many of you know a friend or a grandparent who had polio...they may even be suffering as a post-polio syndrome survivor. They are the first to tell you that we need to get rid of this disease and vaccinate. Please give what you can on this secure site...and if you prefer to mail a check the info is available on the site and you can always message here if unable to locate. Donations can be received until March 24. Please do what you can and THANK YOU in advance. If you are local to Milwaukee...let us know and you can still come to the Milwaukee Athletic Club to join the effort!

Peace has been one of Rotary’s cornerstones since the beginning. Each year, Rotary awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers.
Help us continue this legacy of peace building by supporting - or (recommending someone to) applying for a Rotary Peace Fellowship.
It’s time to apply for Rotary Peace Fellowship Scholarships for 2025. This is fully funded and is now available for both our Master’s degree program and Professional Development Certificate programs.

Please join us in celebrating the 2024 recipient of Rotary International's Sylvia Whitlock Leadership Award, Manjoo Phadke, of the Rotary Club of Pune Deccan Gymkhana, Maharashtra, India 🩷 A successful entrepreneur, Rotary member of 20 years, and tireless advocate for women and girls.
Her projects include women's health initiatives, such as leading campaigns to promote menstrual hygiene, increasing the rate of vaccination against human papillomaviruses (HPV), and organizing clinics that offer checkups and mammogram screenings. But Manjoo Phadke didn't stop there; she designed and launched Project Asmita, a program that educates girls in life skills such as financial, digital, and legal literacy, as well as self-defense, nutrition, and menstrual health.
"I've always felt that women think of themselves as 'lesser.' I want to keep giving them confidence that they are not 'lesser,' and they can do whatever they set their minds to." -Manjoo Phadke

🎉🌍 Happy Birthday, Rotary! 🎂 Today marks 119 years since four visionaries came together to lay the foundation for an organization that now boasts 1.4 million members worldwide. From its inception, Rotary's mission has been rooted in advancing the best interests of communities.
As we celebrate this milestone, we recognize the importance of growth and evolution. We are committed to shaping a Rotary that is inclusive, where every individual feels a sense of belonging. In the words of RI President Gordon McInally, "It's not simply about meeting for meetings’ sake. It's about doing things. So many new styles of clubs are springing up. I want to see Rotary everywhere, in a style to suit everyone who wants to be part of us.."
Join us in our journey of creating lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Together, we can continue Rotary's legacy of service and impact for generations to come. 🌟

Feb 4, 2012, we lost a really great person.
There was absolutely NO ONE like Harry. Of great pride, is my own Harry Franke limerick written for me on my 50th birthday. I'll so miss him! He & Ivan Wittlin continue as my role models in all aspects of living.
Harry was an active and proud Rotarian. When I was on the Rotary International Membersip Committee, I was able to tell them about this guy who had brought in over a hundred new members. Harry ended up being the cover of the Rotarian magazine (over 1 million homes worldwide) with an article about the "Face that Launched 100 Memberships". When he called to thank me he quoted an oldie but goodie..."Ollie, now look at the trouble you've gotten me into!"
Nobody like Harry! He was often called upon in the community to do a closing Limerick which wrapped up the content of the speakers program. He was resilient beyond measure and showed that, after being hit as a pedestrian and fighting hard to come back. He was an advocate of equality and the elimination of race as a benchmark as to whether someone was good or bad, capable or not capable, worthy or not worthy. His signature bow tie has been used by others but never like him. Most of us know leaders and we've seen when they died, that 20 years later no one is remembering them or even knows their name...but Harry is one to be remembered along with his wife Mary and the fund they created, the Harry and Mary Idea Fund.
He is missed. I was grateful that I'd had the opportunity that allowed me to share him with the world. We shared love for Humanity, Racial Justice, Rotary, and more and shared the rare opportunity of being cover models on the Rotarian magazine (though it was ONLY him on his cover :). Still miss him.

As shared by a Rotarian friend,
"For those not in the disabled community, however, talking about disability is still a tricky subject. Obviously, using deliberately offensive terms is unacceptable. But according to experts, there’s also the matter of [polite habits most people dislike](https://www.rd.com/list/polite-habits-people-secretly-dislike/). Several of the “polite” things able-bodied people do or say can actually come off as rude or unhelpful, even when they’re trying to acknowledge someone’s disability with care."
13 “Polite” Ways You’re Talking About Disability That Are Actually Rude Disability is a delicate topic, but these tips will help you approach it in a way that's considerate to those living with a disability.

"Today has been a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.
As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.
Through our Rotary District 5000 Foundation, a relief fund has been established. Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations. A committee will be organized shortly to find the greatest needs for distribution of monies. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the most significant benefits.
Please consider donating to this special fund. Hyperlink and QR code are included with this note.
