In 2015, I impulsively made one of my first short films based on a music video concept. Despite being unprepared, I learned valuable lessons:

* Just start, even if unprepared; learn on the go.

* Mimic shots from similar movies for inspiration.

* A small, dedicated team is more effective than a large, indifferent crew.

* Choose lead actors with dedication over having a name

* Always check with the sound guy for retakes.

* Capture promo shots on set for movie covers.

* Film at an accelerated pace on indie sets to maintain energy.

* Work with passionate friends to enhance the on-set experience.

* Overcome the fear of showing your work; it’s made for others’ enjoyment.

* Differentiate between music videos and films; start small and progress gradually.
