Rigid Inclusions March-On as Foundations are Placed…

Ramsey was contracted to design/build Rigid Inclusions (RI’s) to support the foundations of this multi-story apartment building just north of Downtown Minneapolis. Soils consist of 40-feet of soft swamp deposits overlying dense till. During RI install, an on-board computer monitoring system transfers drill data directly to the cloud which allows us to view logs in real-time on a computer, tablet, or phone. The system allows us to expedite engineer review and to make field or concrete mix adjustments proactively.

RI’s are concrete columns that extend to a load transfer platform just under footings (compacted layer of gravel for this one). RI’s are becoming more popular in the Metro area in recent years and can a be cost-effective ground improvement option for challenging soils.

Ramsey also performed earthwork on this project which is an integral part of the RI system. RI install requires close coordination between the earthwork and foundation team who worked seamlessly on this one to keep production at a high-level.

Being able to provide both the earthwork and ground improvement scopes as one package is a great value to our Clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Seek out bid opportunities through client relationships, network opportunities, public and private postings and assigned opportunities
Estimate projects for earthwork, environmental and specialty projects for private and public clients by reviewing plans and specifications, calculating quantities, soliciting quotes and submittals, preparing computer base estimates and creating bid submittals in a timely manner
Project management of earthwork, environmental and specialty projects including the following responsibilities: contract review and ex*****on, obtain permits and licensing, perform necessary cost accounting for on-going projects including daily/weekly cost verifications, review/confirmation of daily logs, change orders, monthly project cost projections, preparing project invoicing, manage and monitor project billings and collections, attending project meetings, representing Ramsey Companies with clients/customers/vendors
Maintain necessary estimating and project files
Project communications with clients, field staff, office support staff and management, work with appropriate staff to meet any EEO/DBE project requirements
Work with operations staff to coordinate appropriate construction methods, staffing needs and ensure all aspects of project are met safely, on or under budget and in an appropriate time frame
Continuous marketing of existing company clients and assist with efforts to generate/develop new client relationships
Assist with mentoring of junior estimator/project managers and seasonal interns

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of related earthwork experience and a college degree (desired but not a requirement)
Good communications skills, both oral and written
Great attitude
Ability to be a team leader under challenging conditions
Proven problem solving ability and ability to manage multiple tasks

Project: Bruce Vento Elementary School Replacement
Location: 409 Case Ave E, St. Paul, MN

Client: St. Paul Public Schools

Description: The project includes an approximate 160,000 square foot multi-story school replacement for grades PreK-5, with the addition of an Early Childhood and Community Hub for the school district. The new project site is directly east of the existing school, which will be demolished following construction of the new school (see below).

Ramsey was contracted to install approximately 1500ea RamEx-Piers (Aggregate Piers or Stone Columns) to support foundation and floor slab elements. The RamEx-Piers for the project have a nominal diameter of 24-inches with maximum install depths of 25-feet. Project challenges include near surface construction debris (requiring some pre-drilling), Four (4) different install working elevations, contaminated soils, and a transition from a 12-foot fill zone to a basement area.

Ramsey has been installing RamEx-Piers since 2016 using both vibratory hammer and vibroflot tooling methods for either top or bottom-feed applications - and can add grout to our columns to bridge very soft or organic layers.

Lyndale apartment complex rubble cleaned up 1 year after fire A vacant apartment building burned down in Minneapolis nearly a year ago, and since then has remained a pile of rubble in an otherwise popular neighborhood.

Congratulations to Ramsey Companies for their achievements in safety this past year in the CHASE (Construction Health and Safety Excellence) program! CHASE contractors were honored at a 20th Anniversary celebration of this longest-running cooperative compliance partnership with MNOSHA yesterday at Ames Center.

There is much to celebrate! Collectively, CHASE members achieved 33M work hours in 2022 with a 1.12 incident rate, making CHASE jobsites more than 76% safer than the remainder of the Minnesota construction industry.

Thanks to our keynote speaker Garrison Wynn, Department of Labor & Industry Commissioner Nicole Blissenbach, and Former AGC Safety Director Doug Swenson for their inspiring remarks!

RIGID INCLUSIONS: LEADING THE WAY: Ramsey is proud to showcase what is becoming a more popular choice in the deep foundation industry. The Community of Excellence School Addition project consists of 400 Rigid Inclusions (RI’s)to depths up to 40’ to support both foundations and floor slabs. Dominant soils include peat and highly plastic swamp deposits.

RI’s were originally developed to support embankments associated with roadways and dams as a means to bridge compressible soils. Recently, this technology has expanded to include support of building slabs and conventional spread footings.

RI’s are rigid columns of concrete overlain with a 12-inch plus layer of highly compactable crushed aggregate- aka load transfer platform (LTP). The LTP is a critical design element that distributes building loads uniformly into the RI elements

Our Engineer is recognized throughout the soil improvement community as a pioneer and leading practitioner in advancing RI technology to to the building industry.

Established heavy civil contracting firm looking for an experienced diesel equipment mechanic to add to our team. We moved into a brand new facility just 6 years ago and it is very clean, well lit and open with 10 ton overhead crane and a 2 post vehicle hoist. We are continuing to grow and see the need for someone with specialized knowledge to be able to join our team. We have an exciting full-time opportunity for someone.

• Conduct regular preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, small equipment and heavy equipment. Work to include but not limited to inspection, tire rotation, oil changes, hydraulic hose repair, electrical repairs and brake systems.
• Maintain parts inventory and cleanliness in the shop.
• Collaborate with repair team to diagnose problems with vehicles/equipment and plan repairs.
• Perform regular diagnostic tests on trucks and equipment.
• Completes required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, core returns, and quality documents.
• Completes training in line with skill and business requirements.
• Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
Qualifications
• 2-5 years experience as a Diesel Mechanic
• Must be a member of the 49ers Union (or have a willingness to join)
• Must possess a diploma or certificate in diesel mechanics or a related area from a technical school and at least two years of experience within the past five years working independently as a diesel engine mechanic.
• Independent work experience must include making repairs as a mechanic to include diesel systems, hydraulic systems and fuel systems.
• Must have experience conducting diagnostic tests to isolate problems such as with diesel engines, engine components, or computerized automatic and standard transmissions on diesel engines.
• Experience at operating heavy equipment or the ability to learn to operate heavy equipment in order to diagnose problems and perform road/field tests.
• Must posses a valid CDL license
• DOT Certified inspector preferred
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have mobility, vision and hearing, sense of smell and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
• Excellent reading and writing skills
• Capable of developing collaborative working relationships and getting along with coworkers.
• Able to identify and communicate opportunities for work process improvements.
• Can resolve common technical issues.
• Must furnish own tools, company will provide insurance.
• Must have basic computer skills.
