The last resource we would like to share as a part of our Transitioning From Grade to Grade Series is part of our 5-15-45 Collaboration Tool: Start Your Collaboration Out Right! It is never too early to think about how teachers can combine their knowledge to design instruction and consider access to content for students together. This process can begin before this year ends, or you can make plans to meet and start your year off right together early next year!

TIES Peer Engagement Practice Guides | The Power of Peers: Introduction to the Peer Engagement Implementation Guides 07/06/2024

The third resource we would like to share as a part of our Transitioning From Grade to Grade Series is the Peer Engagement Implementation Guides. Summertime is a great time for students to be together with their peers. These guides offer practical ways for students to stay connected and support one another that can be used at home during the summer and revisited in the new school year. Considering how you might incorporate this type of connection between students now and leading into the next school year holds the promise of students being together in ways that lead to rich social interactions and new friendships.

The second resource we would like to share as a part of our Transitioning From Grade to Grade Series is TIES TIP #25: Preparing the AAC User for the Next Grade. Get ideas for specific transition planning for students who have complex communication needs - to ensure that the academic, social, and communication gains they achieved this year continue to the next grade!

The first resource we would like to share as a part of our Transitioning From Grade to Grade Series is the Belonging resource. Thinking about how students experience true belonging now, and how we can support even deeper senses of belonging for all students is only a conversation away. Use the Belonging Reflection Tool (linked within the resource) at your next team meeting, to discuss how your students can meaningfully belong in their next school year!

The end of the school year is fast approaching! TIES wants to share some of our favorite resources for consideration when planning for transitioning students to the next grade, school, and school year! Proactive planning and sharing what you have learned about and with a student with the next team (including the family) is an important step towards assuring continued progress for each and every student. These TIES resources can help you make next year one full of possibilities!

The TIES Center's Gail Ghere and Jen Sommerness, along with Jaimee Kidder from OSPI, had the privilege of visiting Ruby Bridges Elementary School in Washington last week. We learned from Principal Cathi Davis and AP Meghan Crane about the inner workings in this inclusive school including how teachers collaborate, plan and deliver universally designed instruction, and when each and every student is supported to belong as themselves and achieve with the highest of expectations. You are absolutely right, Ruby Bridges, !!

The TIES Center's Gail Ghere and Jen Sommerness spent two days partnering with Ferndale School District in Washington this past week. While there, we worked with their Special Education Leadership team to discuss inclusive practices in the district and facilitated discussion and action planning for inclusive practices with three schools!

Ferndale's motto of "You Belong" was readily apparent in their collaborative relationships with one another, their welcoming of us to partner with them in this work - but most of all, in their dedication to all students in Ferndale schools.
