Repost from @mprnews about our Grand Opening last night🤩 During the first couple days of unrest following the police murder of George Floyd in 2020, MIGIZI (@migizimn) was one of the only buildings in that part of Lake Street in Minneapolis that was untouched. The American Indian Movement (@aimpatrolmpls) protected the building, and “we were the only business on the block that wasn’t looted, wasn’t broken into,” said Binesikwe Means with MIGIZI. Despite that, a neighboring fire spread and destroyed the building. On Thursday evening, about 500 people gathered to celebrate the grand opening of MIGIZI’s new location less than a mile away. Support Native youth this Give to the Max Day!🎉 In 2021, only 58.5% of American Indian youth graduated from high school in Minnesota.
