Clarion River, late September.
The Clarion River is one of the best places to be in autumn. There are many secret spots and access points, and those with kayaks unlock the best experience.
Liftoff
A great white Egret prepares to take off from its hunting spot on a calm pool in Mill Creek State Park
Saw a group of male wood ducks chilling on the bank of a slow bend of a woodland stream. They are very skittish birds, as most wild ducks are, and I’m lucky I got a picture before they fled. Beautiful birds.
Toro
Longhorns are an uncommon yet welcome sight in the countryside of Pennsylvania. A casual swing of the cow's head could cause significant injury, so I can see why a lot of people don't raise them.
Yellow Warbler
May is "Migratory Bird Month" here in Pennsylvania: South American birds make their way north to Canada and their summer feeding grounds. Little warblers like this fly thousands of miles in order to gorge themselves and their chicks. Some birds migrate at night, using the stars for guidance!
Grey Bay
A shot of a little frozen lake in the pine forests of western Maryland. I love pine forests in the winter because they become black and grey and as silent as the grave. New Germany State Park and the Savage River State Forest are places people should definitely check out.
Searching for the Mothman
Enjoying the vibes on a lonely mountain road in Appalachia.
Towers in the Tundra
Saw a lonely spire situated along a frozen stream and wondered if wizards go south for the winter.

The Messenger
A crow was captured flying away with unknown secrets, spoken in a language older than time.

Good news, everyone!
I was blessed with a fast new laptop for Christmas, and can now edit and upload photographs from my apartment! I will miss those lazy day trips to the library and using their computers.
Taking Flight
A heron lifts off on a cold November morning, breaking the mirror-like surface of the icy water.

Autumn's End
A cold day dawns on Lake Wilhelm. Cold water v***r creates a chilly haze, and frost covers the last of the oak leaves.

"The Golden Path"
I love hiking on the lonely forest roads in the mountains of our beautiful Commonwealth. Leaves rain down and swirl around you when the wind blows. These days are almost here again!
"The Land of New Giants"
This title is derived from the trail that leads up to the this overlook at Parker Dam State Park. It's aptly named as these protected forests are home to trees that may one day astound visitors with their majesty.
"Morning Stretches"
A female merganser stretches and warms up on a cold April day at the Erie National Wildlife Refuge.
"Secluded Sunrise"
"Monarch Caterpillar"
This trip to Kettle Creek was well worth the drive because monarch and milkweed moth caterpillars were everywhere. Little ones to huge, wriggling specimens could be seen.
"Islands in the Clouds"
Mount Davis rises above the fog on a beautiful October day in 2020. Dirt roads and fog were the highlight of the morning trip.
"Secret Spot"
High Point Lake is a little-known lake near Mount Davis, and is one of my favorite Autumn destinations.
"Blue Day Dawning"
“Into the Mist”
Birds fly into the thick fog that covers the low hills. I love when the land is shrouded on fog because of the sense of foreboding and gloom it imparts. The cool most is refreshing and the stillness unnerving.
"The Shrouded Coast"
A person walks along the rocky shores of the Atlantic on Mount Desert Island, Maine. There is a unique feel to the fog-shrouded coasts of the north Atlantic, and I long to go back.
Fish/Stick
"The Land of Fog"
Sitting at the Kettle Creek Lake overlook and watching the sun rise and burn off the night fog is a peaceful way to spend a morning. The hills slowly emerge and the land takes form as the fog roils below.
"A New Day Dawns"
Saw this exquisite sunrise on our way to the Allegheny National Forest, driving along the country roads outside of Titusville.
"Into the Mist"
Taken on Route 666 on our way to the Allegheny National Forest. Hiked the entire Minister Creek Loop.
"Question Mark Butterfly"
This butterfly is one of the most brilliantly colored that I have seen. They are much brighter than monarchs, and I enjoy the purple edges of their wings. They like to bask with their wings open, and are easily spotted on green leaves.
"Pillar of the Past"
A kayaker enjoys the solitude of the Conemaugh in the shadow of an old stone pylon.
