Korey Rowswell Art
Korey Rowswell is a mixed media sculptor and installation artist inspired by plants and the life c*c
2023 was certainly the year of highs and lows. Art wise things have been stellar. I've won three art awards, sold more work than ever before and been super fortunate to be welcomed into the Panama City art scene. In my personal life, I feel like a kicked puppy. I'm looking forward to slowing things down in 2024 and recenter before I fly off into chaos. Sometimes we need to go dormant before we can grow.
I have been extremely fortunate have not only been accepted into two shows this past two months, but to win awards in both of them! "Noccalula Falls" won an Honorable Mention at Gallery of Art 850 's Art to the Max and "Swamp's Edge" won Best in Show at Panama City Center for the Arts 's Nature in Art. I hope that you can get out and enjoy the exhibitions this holiday season. Panama City is a great place to be an artist with a vibrant and supportive arts community.
I've achieved textile greatness with this years .

Join me Thursday night for THREE gallery openings at Panama City Center for the Arts from 5pm to 7pm. I'm happy to be included in this great exhibition of the nature art from the Florida panhandle.
Join me at the Holiday Bazaar at Panama City Center for the Arts December 1st and 2nd. Fri: 5pm - 8pm and Sat: 10am - 3pm to find hand crafted presents for your loved ones. I'll be selling bags made from vintage kimonos, embroideries, pysanky and my watercolors. Can't wait to see you there!
I can't wait for my first art walk in Panama City! Find me at Main Street Antiques on Harrison . I'll have bags made from vintage kimonos, embroideries and some of my new series, natural ink and embroidery on paper. Now to figure out what to demo
Nocallula Falls got into Art to the Max at Gallery of Art 850 . I'm so excited to be included in my first exhibit in Panama City! π Can't wait to meet more of the local art scene. Join me for the reception on Thursday, November 9th from 6 - 9pm.
I've been playing around with ways to combine my love of embroidery with my watercolor practice. After I took a natural inks class, it all came together. I used turmeric (yellow), Verona green (green), and venetian red (brick). I'm excited to try making ink with the goldenrod that is blooming next.
Only an artist would show up to their kids music practice with an arm in a basket. Baskets don't get enough love these days and this is one of my favorites. Stay tuned for more sculpture progress.
Can't stop taking pictures of the ground. Look at all the beautiful colors and textures in the ground cover of Florida! Will this be artwork someday? Maybe. Have I been taking pictures of the ground for years? Absolutely.
"Cypress Ablaze" SOLD 9β x 9β x 1.5β
Taking a walk in a swamp on an autumn morning is one of life's true delights. This piece is a little more abstract than some of my previous fall pieces but I love making the leaf texture with detached chain stitch.
"Mossy Reflections" 10.5β x 7.5β x 1.5β
This embroidery was inspired by an autumn afternoon at Dismals Canyon . I hope you can feel the hushed bird song and cool waters when you look at it.
Putting on a few finishing touches as sweeps right by us. Can't wait for tomorrow! I'm in love with making foam filled spandex covered muscles.
Sewing the muscle suit was a success! I'm surprised how smoothly it came together despite being spandex. My arms are a bit messy because I switched back and forth from hand sewing to machine sewing. I'm almost ready to start the mask and fur!
"Gulf Dunes" SOLD 9.5β x 5.5β x 3β
This piece captures the anticipation as you're walking up to the beach. Many of the beaches that we frequent here have long planks that stretch for ages into the distance. It feels like time travel as you walk on these gangplanks and the vegetation slowly shrinks and fades away.
Howdy Montgomery Friends!

I'm feeling some serious Golden Girls vibes from this frame so I made a Florida inspired piece. π It's a good thing I enjoy embroidering palm trees because we're moving to Panama City, FL this summer! Send me all your art scene recommendations!

Check them out at in the Small Works Holiday Show during December. Join me at the opening reception Thursday, December 1st 5:30 - 8pm.

All my works have a messy phase where you can't tell if the piece will come together. I think of these like elementary school photos. What will the adult look like?
See my works all grown up and in person at the 56th Annual Montgomery Art Guild Regions Bank Exhibition until Thursday, October 20th. The opening Reception is Tuesday, October 4th, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Can't wait to see you there!
Got back from a weekend at Dragon Con in Atlanta! So much great textile and costume inspiration! I'm fully indoctrinated in the Cult of the Carpet and the Loyal Order of the Ribbon. I've caught the cosplay bug. Watch out!
The love of stitching is coming back. I need the meditative process right now.
Did you know there's a backpack hidden in there? Can you find it? My kid has me watching Stranger Things and this embroidery is the mood right now. Lost in the woods.
