The mind is always trying to move us away from pain into pleasure.

Drugs and alcohol may be used to numb a person’s feelings and thoughts or give them a sense of being up rather than being down. So they can ‘feel’ more like the authentic version of themselves.
Food may be used to comfort uncomfortable emotions and even as something to do when bored.

I have yet to meet someone with addiction issues that believes that they are enough—self-critical looping thoughts paving the way to their beliefs.

Who or what are you grateful for?
We are grateful for all the experiences we've had and everything that has happened in our lives because it made us who we are today; we know things happen for a reason, and now we understand our purpose.

Preparing for change: 5 keys to addiction recovery!

- Remind yourself of the reasons you want to change.
- Think about your past attempts at recovery, if any. What worked? What didn’t?
- Set specific, measurable goals, such as a start date or limits on your drug use.
- Remove reminders of your addiction from your home, workplace, and other places you frequent.
- Tell friends and family that you’re committing to recovery, and ask for their support.

On our journey to recovery, there will be beautiful days when we will feel comfortable and successful. We have overcome many problems. But it is also essential that we accept the terrible days that we may go through and know that they do not rotate and that their incidence will decrease over time. It's there to get us to understand our weaknesses and the things we need to work on.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

We want to create a place where all people with depression feel they are in safe hands.

It’s true: laughter is strong medicine. It draws people together in ways that trigger healthy physical and emotional changes in the body. Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. It also helps you release anger and forgive sooner.

With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.

You may feel that you love your child, spouse, parent, or sibling so much that it’s your job to fix them. But, on the other hand, you may not want your marriage to fail or lose the close relationship you once shared.

When you love someone addicted to drugs or alcohol, you spend a great amount of time and energy hoping that he will change. So, when they don’t change, you make excuses, cover for their behavior, and take the brunt of the consequence. Trying to fix – or rescue – an addicted person doesn’t just keep you in the circle of unhealthy thinking and behaviors; it keeps your loved one drinking, shooting he**in, or eating pills. Your love and support won’t save them – but professional addiction treatment can. Let us help you.

Your mind is very likely to tell you your purpose on its own. All you’ve got to do is listen to yourself. One easy way to do so is to shift your focus to what’s on your mind consciously.

Every morning when you wake up, what are the things that you think of first? Similarly, what are the thoughts that go through your mind before you go to sleep? Or when you randomly drift into a thinking spree during work?

All these thoughts are your mind’s way to communicate with you. So find what’s common in them to give yourself a direction to work in.

Lean on close friends and family. Having the support of friends and family members is an invaluable asset in recovery. If you’re reluctant to turn to your loved ones because you’ve let them down before, consider going to relationship counseling or family therapy.

Untreated depression itself can also increase the risk of other diseases and thus mortality or disability.

Diseases that are more common in depressed patients include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases such as vascular calcification, heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer, cognitive impairment, and even dementia. This correlation is strongest for cardiovascular diseases and lowest for cancer.

It is important to be aware that a lack of treatment for depression also has its price, so treatment for depression is recommended in all cases.

Resist the urge to fix or give advice.

There is a time for advice—and that comes when someones ask for it. If they haven’t asked, lean towards support. There are times when you might even agree with them: “Yes, this mental illness sucks, but medication sucks too.” Once you give people the space to feel heard, their defenses go down, and they are more open to a conversation.

Common signs of addiction and substance abuse include:
- Taking drugs/drinking for longer than intended or in larger amounts
- Craving or urges to use the substance
- Prioritizing drugs or alcohol and neglecting responsibilities or loved ones
- Continuing to use the substance even after experiencing negative consequences
- Developing a tolerance to the substance
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when the effects of the substance wear off

Although someone may be exhibiting all these signs of addiction, many people do not get alcohol or drug addiction treatment because they are in denial or afraid to come forward. For some, getting substance use disorder treatment requires a drug intervention or court-ordered rehab.

At Vital Treatment and Recovery Center, we understand that asking for help is a big step, but we are here to guide you and your loved ones throughout the recovery journey.

An alternative to full-time hospitalization, the partial hospitalization program allows clients to immerse themselves in our social learning model after completing a detox or inpatient program. PHP may also be appropriate for clients faced with a dual diagnosis since it allows time to meet with outside specialists who manage medications for co-occurring disorders. Developing sober-living skills with other clients, PHP participants learn to manage stress, cope without relying on drugs or alcohol, and develop healthy personal, social, and workplace relationships.

Whether you occasionally drink alcohol or consume alcohol in moderation, you should understand how alcohol affects your health. Research on alcohol and the human body has revealed some health benefits and risks.

1. Alcohol affects men and women differently.
After a young woman and a young man drink the same amount of alcohol, the woman will have a higher blood alcohol level.

2. Alcohol can lower blood sugar levels.
The symptoms of alcohol intoxication and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) are similar. People with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar levels while drinking, as hypoglycemia requires appropriate medical attention. If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol.

3. Moderate alcohol consumption could help protect against heart disease.
Moderate alcohol consumption means no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men. In addition, to reduce your risk of heart disease, increase your physical activity and eat a healthy diet.

4. Many factors influence how people react to alcohol
Your age, gender, genetics, overall health, and history of alcohol abuse can influence how your body reacts to alcohol. Alcohol flows through your organs based on the amount of water that is in them. Typically, women and older men have less water in their organs. As a result, less alcohol can enter their organs, so it stays in their bloodstreams for more extended periods instead.

5. Drinking does not warm you up
Consuming alcohol causes blood to rush to the skin's surface, which makes you feel warmer. However, alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate, making you lose heat more quickly. Alcohol also impedes the body's warmth process by causing chills.

If you or someone you know is showing symptoms of alcohol poisoning, Vital Treatment and Recovery Center can help. Let us help you.

Based on scientific research since the mid-1970s, the following key principles should form the basis of any effective treatment program:

◉ Addiction is a complex but treatable disease that affects brain function and behavior.
◉ No single treatment is suitable for everyone.
◉ People need to have quick access to treatment.
◉ Effective treatment addresses all of the patient's needs, not just their drug use.
◉ Staying in treatment long enough is critical.
◉ Counseling and other behavioral therapies are the most commonly used forms of treatment.
◉ Medications are often an essential part of treatment, especially when combined with behavioral therapies.
◉ Treatment plans must be reviewed constantly and modified to fit the patient's changing needs.
◉ Treatment should address other possible mental disorders.
◉ Medically assisted detoxification is only the first stage of treatment.
◉ Treatment doesn't need to be voluntary to be effective.
◉ Drug use during treatment must be monitored continuously.
◉ Treatment programs should test patients for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases and teach them about steps they can take to reduce their risk of these illnesses.
