All set up for Asheville Herb Fest! Come on out to this fun event and peruse a great selection of plants!
Pinkshell azalea (Rhododendron vaseyi) is starting to bloom. I have always loved the distinct flowers of this deciduous azalea. It’s also a tough plant, growing only at a few high elevation sites.
Oh how sweet the smell- Southern flame azalea (Rhododendron austrinum) blooming its heart out. If you’ve been thinking about trying native azaleas, this is the easiest one to grow.
It won’t be long now. . . Southern flame deciduous azalea (Florida flame, Rhododendron austrinum) flowers about to open. This fragrant early blooming native is one of our favorites!

The highly fragrant flowers of Edgeworthia chrysantha or paperbush are in full bloom this time of year! This unique deciduous shrub matures to 4-6’ tall and wide. A few 7 gallons remain at the nursery for pickup only.
The Gardening 4 Life folks in Polk County continue to do amazing things! The March 30 event in Columbus sold out quick but a waitlist is available. Looking forward to being a part of such a great event!
The winter has been busy as we continue to expand the nursery and propagate new native and unique plants. We look forward to bringing many of these exciting and hard to find native trees, shrubs, and perennials to market this year. In the meantime, if spring fever comes early, check out our website for mail order shopping or visit us in person by appointment. We appreciate our customers and look forward to seeing many of you again this year as we celebrate the beauty of native plants.

One of our favorite native trees, the Carolina Silverbells (Halesia Carolina) puts on a show in late April through May with its white (sometimes tinged with pink) bell-shaped flowers! Available in 3 gallons at the nursery.
It’s pawpaw season and we've got both 1 gallons and 3 gallons available at the nursery! The American pawpaw (Asimina triloba) produces the largest edible tree fruit native to North America. The fruit ripens in late August through September and is described as a mix between a banana and mango with a custardy (avocado-like) texture. This understory tree is native to North Carolina and 25 other states in the eastern U.S. and grows up to 15’-20’. In the wild they tend to grow in shaded areas but can tolerate both full sun or shade. It also serves as the host plant for the zebra swallowtail butterfly!
Had a great time at the Botanical Gardens at Asheville Fall Plant Sale! We always enjoy discussing and sharing in the beauty of native plants.
Magnolia Tripetala or Umbrella Tree, is one of several deciduous magnolias that are native to our region. This unique understory tree is known for its huge leaves, and thrives in the rich moist woods of western NC. It prefers a site with some shade and typically grows to around 30’ at maturity. It produces large (6’’-10’’) creamy white flowers in the spring just after the leaves emerge. It will certainly add some intrigue to any landscape. Available in 3 and 5 gallons at the nursery!
Hello, Lovely. The late-blooming Plumleaf azalea (R. prunifolium) showing off. Available in 1 and 3-gallons at the nursery.
Gregory Bald Cumberland azalea blooming at the nursery. So gorgeous.
‘Marydel’ is a variety of coastal azalea that is low-growing with fragrant flowers and attractive blue foliage.
Another great native ground cover- dwarf created iris (Iris crostata) blooming right now. Such a beautiful flower especially if you zoom in to see the detail.
‘Blue Moon’ woodland phlox, Phlox divaricata, blooming it’s heart out at the nursery. A great native groundcover for part shade.
Red buckeye (Aesculus pavia) blooming just in time for the arrival of hummingbirds.
Swamp azalea (Rhododendron viscosum) starting to bloom at the nursery. A wonderful native that can tolerate wetter areas.
Pinkshell azalea (Rhododendron vaseyi) blooming at the nursery. Native to only a small area in the NC mountains. Such a beauty!
A crane fly on one of my favorite trees, Carolina Silverbells (Halesia tetraptera).
Mountain or Piedmont azalea, Rhododendron canescens, is just starting to bloom here at the nursery. It’s one of the first azalea species to bloom. Although it’s the most common native azalea in the southeast, it’s usually hard to find for sale.
Oh, how sweet the smell. . . Edgeworthia starting to bloom. Thankful for these winter bloomers!
A white form of one of the few native rhododendrons in the Southeast US, Rhododendron caroliniana Alba. Tough plants with gorgeous flowers.
