We, the Burke County Branch of the NAACP, are saddened and broken by the passing of Ms. Eddie Gale Jones who was a faithful member of the local branch. Gale has served as our 1st VP President, our 2nd Vice President retrospectively and, chair of our Veterans Services Committee. She was our linkage to the Charles George Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Asheville. It was because of Gale our branch was able to provide snacks, coffee, water and clothing to the veterans at this facility. If the facility made a request Gale worked hard to meet that request. Gale was most happy when she was helping others and spending time with her family and friends. She never met a stranger and considered their needs as important whether they were homeless or maintaining themselves in the community. In other words, Gale had a servant's heart and she allowed God to direct her path. In the most difficult situations, she could always manage to smile and provide a kind, even though at times a stern word. A community soldier who will truly be missed because she was a vital and productive member of our community. While some talk about what they can or will do, Gale did little talk and a lot of work. Oh, Morganton and Burke County, you do not know what a void has been left by her passing. We pray for the family and pray that God will send someone to fill the gap. May you RIP our Dear Sister Eddie Gale Jones.
