Last month the community enjoyed being one of the stops on the Great Race. The Great Race is an antique, vintage, and collector car competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways. It is not a test of top speed. It is a test of a driver/navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and the car’s (and team’s) ability to endure on a cross-country trip. The course instructions require the competing teams to drive at or below the posted speed limits at all times. Thousands of spectators came out to see these incredible cars on their 9-day journey from Kentucky to Maine. Thank you all who came out to enjoy the day! During the month of May, Main Street Morgantown encourages the community to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. Come together as communities across the country celebrate their heritage and preserve their history. Historic preservation is the practice of protecting and preserving buildings, structures, and other artifacts of historical significance. This is important because our built environment is a reflection of our cultural identity, and historic places provide us with a tangible link to our past. Main Street Morgantown invites you to join our local celebration of National Historic Preservation Month with the theme “People Saving Places." Notice your surroundings and recognize the beauty and significance of historic buildings and structures. We hope to inspire people to appreciate their surroundings, becoming advocates for preservation and the protection of historic buildings for future generations. We invite non-profits, government organizations, businesses, and citizens to celebrate Historic Preservation Month in their own way by hosting events, social media campaigns, and other initiatives. Let's work together to raise awareness about the importance of historic preservation and inspire people to take action. Share a photo of a favorite historic building or architectural detail. Organize a display of historic books or photos for others to see. Go on a historic walking tour or organize one of your own. Follow our social media in May for then and now photos of favorite Downtown buildings. To celebrate Historic Preservation Month, we encourage everyone to share photos and stories of their favorite historic buildings on social media using the hashtags #PeopleSavingPlaces #MorgantownWV and #DowntownMorgantown. Let's build a movement to preserve our history and protect our heritage for generations to come.

We are sharing our Morgantown love and highlighting some the special things that make our downtown so great. Our beautiful city is home to over 30,000 people. Built on one of the strongest small metro economies, Morgantown boasts exciting opportunities for commerce, education, and residency. Day or night, the downtown district draws people of all ages to gather, shop, and dine. Connecting the Wharf, neighborhoods, river, and university, Downtown is the heart of our community, as a source of pride, historic character, and an attractive and clean place to live, work, and play. Morgantown is unparalleled. Nestled in the hills of northern West Virginia, Morgantown is conveniently located within a few hours of both Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. but is far enough removed to provide a relaxing and scenic ambiance.
