Last month the community enjoyed being one of the stops on the Great Race. The Great Race is an antique, vintage, and collector car competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways. It is not a test of top speed. It is a test of a driver/navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and the car’s (and team’s) ability to endure on a cross-country trip. The course instructions require the competing teams to drive at or below the posted speed limits at all times. Thousands of spectators came out to see these incredible cars on their 9-day journey from Kentucky to Maine. Thank you all who came out to enjoy the day! This is important because our built environment is a reflection of our cultural identity, and historic places provide us with a tangible link to our past. Main Street Morgantown invites you to join our local celebration of National Historic Preservation Month with the theme “People Saving Places." Notice your surroundings and recognize the beauty and significance of historic buildings and structures. We hope to inspire people to appreciate their surroundings, becoming advocates for preservation and the protection of historic buildings for future generations. We invite non-profits, government organizations, businesses, and citizens to celebrate Historic Preservation Month in their own way by hosting events, social media campaigns, and other initiatives. Main Street Morgantown announces over 40 downtown events with the kick-off of its 2024 events season starting in April. Since 1984, Main Street Morgantown has been dedicated to the development and promotion of a vibrant and prosperous downtown district. To accompany its milestone year, Main Street Morgantown announces the unveiling of its 40th anniversary logo. The 2024 events season starts in April with a mix of new and beloved events. New this year is the WV Cupcake & Craft Beer Fest, a downtown street festival where gourmet cupcakes meet locally brewed craft beer in perfect harmony. Other April events include StoryFest by Morgantown Public Library System, International Street Festival by WVU Office of Global Affairs, and Spring Handmade Market by Mon River Trails Conservancy. Spring Arts Walk will return to High Street on May 4th. Among the 2024 highlights are WV Birthday Party in June, Hops on the Mon in October, an array of street festivals, cruise-ins, vendor events, merchant mixers, and holiday celebrations. A new year-round program First Fridays for the Arts by Arts Council of Greater Morgantown will celebrate creativity and culture as a multi-venue arts showcase. With the City of Morgantown - City Hall recent establishment of the downtown PODA program, the public can look forward to casual “sip and stroll” type events in the Downtown and Wharf Districts in May.

What an exciting time for the City of Westover and its residents! Westover has experienced some new business growth and expansion over the last few years that have brought new jobs and revenue to the city helping to improve their infrastructure within city limits. Multiple new businesses located in The Gateway and Westridge Commons and small businesses such as POP "The Soda Shop" and Coffee Tree Roasters Wv have created new destinations for the Morgantown community. Westover also received recognition on the WV Honey Trail which celebrates our local honey bees by fostering sustainability, community engagement, and the conservation of our precious pollinators.
