A bittersweet trip down memory laneโฆ

For being this year's Golden Stethoscope Winner!
This award was given to a physician who demonstrates collaborative leadership across the continuum of care, demonstrates a consistent focus on our patients and a commitment to safety and quality.
WVU Department of Emergency Medicine and the Division of Prehospital Medicine hosted the 17th annual Southeastern Student Wilderness Medicine Conference in New River Gorge at The Outpost on May 3 & 4. This is the second conference meeting as a joint venture with wilderness and EMS medicine experts from WVU, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
Nearly 100 attendees and instructors were present representing WVU, WVSOM, Marshall, Virginia Tech, UVA, VCOM, Radford, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, Shenandoah, and the University of Uniformed Services. Topics covered included wilderness patient assessment, medical direction, altitude and dive physiology, drowning/water emergencies, and heavy ropes/incline rescue. Health Net Aeromedical provided a fly-in demonstration and hands-on aircraft education session. We also had interactive demonstrations with emerging technologies from the Civil Military Institute using drones and Boston Dynamics robot dogs.

Earlier this month, Dr. Chris Goode, MD, FACEP attended ACEPโs annual Leadership and Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC. While in attendance, he was presented with the 2024 โACEP 911 Network Member of the Year Awardโ which recognizes his endless advocacy work on a national level for Emergency Medicine and the patients we care for.

Elizabeth Steele, Kaia Richmond, and Grace Maley are rising MS-3's in the WVU School of Medicine Class of 2025 and were awarded their coveted White Coats over the weekend.
We have no doubt that they will uphold the oath of medicine to the best of their abilities during their EM training and beyond, and we are thankful for the opportunity to be part of their journeys!

As for today we are so glad to gather over the tasty Qdoba build your own bowl bar and provide each and every one of our residents with a gift pack.
This gift is a small token of appreciation for everything they do for our patients, our department, and each other.
WVU EM residents regularly participate in simulation education in our state-of-the-art STEPS Center where they lead high stakes clinical scenarios and resuscitations and refine their procedural skills.
Our simulation curriculum is led by our amazing simulation faculty who are experts in the construction of simulation cases and masters of conducting debriefings in a psychologically safe environment.

Thankful for the time spent with our founding residency program director, Dr. Bill Ramsey, at our 30th WVU EM anniversary. Sometimes looking at the past gives us just the inspiration we need to keep pushing forward!
