πΈβ¨ "I picked up a camera because it was my choice of weapons against what I hated most about the universe: racism, intolerance, poverty. I could have just as easily picked up a knife or a gun, like many of my childhood friends did ... most of whom were murdered or put in prison ... but I chose not to go that way. I felt that I could somehow subdue these evils by doing something beautiful that people recognize me by, and thus make a whole different life for myself, which has proved to be so."

We're thrilled to celebrate the success of Ron EA Powell , an exhibiting artist at Art in the Atrium, who recently sold a commissioned piece highlighting the legacy of Adam Clayton Powell Jr.!
In this powerful painting, Powell masterfully captures the fervor and intensity of Adam Clayton Powell Jr.βs advocacy for civil rights and social justice. Set against a backdrop of monochromatic tones, the figure of Powell stands out in stark black-and-white, symbolizing the clarity of his mission and the weight of his words. The vibrant crowd of African Americans surrounding him, painted in muted colors, reflects the diverse experiences and struggles within the community. Symbolism of threes throughout the artwork represents Powell Jr.'s nearly three decades in office, emphasizing his lasting impact.
Congratulations, Ron, on this remarkable achievement!
