Observing Mallory the Mallard: A Lesson in Patience

A few weekends ago, I spotted a female mallard perched in the flower bed out front while heading to the store. She flaps her wings and flies off, and I don't think much of it. But then, as I’m going to my car, I peek over and see some eggs in the flower bed—she has made a nest!

I see her sitting there all day, diligently incubating her eggs. I watch her return cautiously in the early morning, noticing me at the window. I capture the moment for my Instagram family, naming her Mallory.

Watching Mallory, a soon-to-be mother, is a profound lesson in patience. She tirelessly sits there, teaching me to be patient with myself and others. I'm excited to see the eggs hatch, though I know it will likely happen in the early morning. Mallory's dedication reminds me that sometimes we must sit and nurture our plans until they hatch.

I'll miss her and her little ones when they eventually venture out into the world, but for now, I cherish this lesson in patience she brings to my daily life. Join me as we watch her await her little ducklings.
