Exciting News from KMG Ensemble Founder & Director Kelly Krantz!

Kelly Krantz is excited to share that she has accepted the position of Head Coach for the Virginia Tech HighTechs Dance Team! She’s thrilled to take on this new role and wants to reassure her dance family that both Surry and Carroll County Dance Centers will continue to provide the same high-quality dance education they know and love.

While most classes will remain the same, a few may have slight schedule adjustments. (Please check your email to see if your schedule has been adjusted).

Both studios are here to stay, and Kelly is excited for the added opportunities this role will bring to benefit all our dancers!

We are thrilled to introduce our NEW staff members to you 🙏

Meet Kaylee Edwards, one of our new dance instructors! Kaylee was one of our student assistants for many years at SCDC and now we're honored to have her join our team as an instructor!

Learn a little more about Kaylee:

"Kaylee began dancing at Surry County Dance Center at the age of 9. She danced for KMG Ensemble for 3 years, and had the opportunity to perform on many stages including the Daytona 500, Carnival Cruise Lines, Charlotte Hornets, VT Tech, and many more.

In 2021, she began a position as a student assistant at SCDC. She instantly fell in love with sharing her passion for dance with dancers of all ages.

After graduating this past spring, she accepted a position as a SCDC instructor, as well as entered the nursing program at Surry Community College in order to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

She is so excited to start this new chapter while continuing to share her love of dance with her students."

🎉 We're so proud of our instructor Ella Bash!

This past summer, Ella had an incredible opportunity to attend the Staib Dance Company summer intensive in Sorrento, Italy. She spent two amazing weeks on the Amalfi Coast, dancing for 72 hours with renowned choreographers like George Staib, Oliver Robertson, Sarah Hillmer, Anna Bracewell, Leah Cox, Gavriel Spitzer, and Ni**od Poles.

Here’s what Ella had to say about the experience:

"This entire experience was nothing like anything I had ever had the privilege of being a part of. It was so inspiring to see such a strong group of talented dancers from all over the country uniting together over our love of dance."

At the end of her time in Italy, Ella and her fellow dancers performed a choreographed piece in the square of Sant’Agata for the local community.

We’re so excited for her to bring back everything she learned to our students, enriching their knowledge and experience!

At Surry County Dance Center, we encourage and support our teachers through professional development. No matter the age, we are ALL always learning, growing, and becoming better versions of ourselves!

Then, join us in Hillsville on Halloween, October 31st, for the Safe Halloween trick-or-treating event downtown! Our dancers will be handing out treats, performing, and bringing even MORE surprises your way. 🍬💃

We’re incredibly thankful that our Surry County Dance Center location didn’t sustain any damage. The Carroll County studio had a bit of minor damage, but nothing structural, and our amazing contractors are hard at work getting everything back in shape. Classes are continuing as usual, and we’re here to provide an outlet of normalcy for our families.

We hope everyone is on their way to returning to their routines and finding comfort in getting back to what they love.

Our hearts go out to the dance community in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, where many local studios were hit hard by the flooding from Hurricane Helene. Some of our younger students have already sent well wishes, cards, and letters, and while we can’t reach every affected studio, we hope this small gesture brings a bit of hope to those in need during this challenging time.

We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with our community:

The New KMG Ensemble Intern Position has been filled!

We are delighted to announce that Meriam Worrell has joined us as our new KMG Ensemble Intern! This nine-month paid internship, requiring a commitment of three days per week and 2-4 hours per day, offers an incredible opportunity for professional development and skill-building. Meriam will be engaging in a dynamic mix of clerical, administrative, and classroom duties, contributing to the vibrant energy of our dance community.

Meriam shared her excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to be the first-ever KMG Ensemble Intern! I can’t wait to see what all this year will bring. I am deeply honored and grateful for this opportunity.”

We are also excited to introduce our amazing 2024-2025 student assistants: Anna Dowell. Anna is a dedicated student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, responsibility, and passion for dance. She will be assisting our instructors in various classes, helping to create a supportive and enriching environment for all of our students.
