Man… It’s been a hot minute since I’ve stumbled about my parent’s shop in Ripon, Wi… I cut my teeth both literally and figuratively in this shop! When I was 10 or so I started shadowing my dad while he’d pound away on the anvil, meticulously transforming mundane sticks of red hot steel into organic living forms… then there were the early teen years where I’d learn patience and persistence punching miles of holes on “big green” the power house iron worker press and shear that boggled my young mind as it would punch perfect circular holes through half inch thick steel as if it were butter…. And days spent pushing steel stock through my dad’s pride and joy Marvel bandsaw… my grandpa (whose ancestors founded Armstrong tools Co. which now owns the Marvel Co.) on my mom’s side gifted my parents on their wedding day (now that’s… a wedding gift!) These were the jobs that kept my young brain occupied as my dad slowly convinced my mom that I was old enough to go under the helmet and learn to weld… Once that helmet got tightened around my head, there was no turning back! The blue arc of the welder was always my true north… it hypnotized me as a kid and I’m still under its industrious spell. Never forget your roots folks. The #kiln #room is UP AND RUNNING!!!!! ❤️👹🤘💪 This side room was a kiln room the minute we moved into the studio 8 years ago…. It just took that long to turn the goal into a reality!! Now Heidi has twice the kiln load capacity and can really crank out the work. “Mane” lining the creative energy after a week n change taken by the mutant rona…. Sometimes your body yells “NO” and forces you to rest…. I forget how essential it is to take breaks… studio time is so much more positive and productive after taking time off to heal and recharge….2024 is going to include scheduled rest periods!
