Cutting boards of many sizes, live edge tables, game boards and bourbon barrel cabinets.
Pretty portable shooting bench. Height adjustable seat included. Built for my friend Jake and Sh*tty Waders Duck Club
Greetings friends. I have had limited time in the shop these last 4 months but still managed to get a few boards out. They have been posted to the Cutting Boards folder if you want to check them out. Happy holidays to all that are following my page. More fun stuff to come in 2024!
The Cherry wood board. 2/3 of the blocks are cherry, from the same tree but different slabs when cut
Well it's been a while since I posted but the workshop has been busy. I finished a pair of boards for one client, a single board for another and then built him an even larger board. I teased him about building a counter top but in the end changed its name to Big Mama! Pics of these boards have been added to the Cutting Board folder.
I also completed building a Lego set that I bought 8 or 9 years ago when the price dropped to 1/2 of the original price. The kid in me is still alive.
A fellow artisan (and a jeweler) asked me to look at rehabbing an old farmhouse table that had a bunch of water damage. End result is a furniture set of sorts, coffee table, free standing bar top and bar stools. Pics are in the Live Edge tables and such folder.
Finally, my consulting work with my client has ended so back to be retired and not semi retired till the next opportunity comes. Yay... more time in my shop!
I finished another board this week. Similar to the one I made for Dee with wood that was used but different patterning to show off the middle block that was a beautiful piece of cherry. Pics were added to the Cutting Boards folder
Finished another board today. Love the look of the red oak and it's high def grain. Check it out in the cutting boards folder
What you do with edge cuts from harvesting a burled elm 2 x 10 board... you make a rustic key hook rack for the wall
I've been busy in the shop finishing a coffee table using a board from the same tree that Ben and Phillip's table came from and a couple of end tables from the first pieces from a large red oak that is being harvested. Pictures are in the Tables folder if you want to check them out
A former colleague wanted a board that was regularly irregular. The formal term is a chaos board. When she described it a picture of confetti popped into my head so that's what I call the pattern. I was able to use a lot of my narrow slices left over from other boards and just went with whatever looked good for the five component blocks. Slice them up, mix them up, and you end up with a beautiful board. Thanks for the motivation to try something new, Joy. Enjoy the new board! There is a new folder now for the confetti board.
A new board deserves a new post. This board is for Hope, my youngest son's girl friend. It's a compound block diamond pattern board.
Compound to me means multiple pieces to a single block.
So with Hanukah Charlie (santa) being good to me and delivering a new band saw, I can do a diagonal cut on a square block and match up two different wood types. The new 2 piece block let's me create the diamond pattern running up the middle.
It's a big board, 12 x 16.5 and 1-3/4" thick.
Lots of detail work involved but the results are just plain pretty. Check out the new folder I added for pictures of the process and the final board.
I'm posting pictures today about the process of building a board. This latest one replaces the Southwestern board that I built for Deb and because she has such a kind heart, it went to the daughter of friends of the family that just loved it. Hence v.2 of the board. It's 17 pieces and large sized at 12.5 x 17.5 x 1.75 thick. I used a few different wood types on this one that resulted in a bit softer contrast between the various types.
The steps involve diagram, pick the boards, orient the grain, plane to thickness, glue and clamp #1, plane again (still edge grain), cut cross sections, flip up to expose the end grain, glue and clamp #2 with the proper offset for the pattern, trim the edges, round the edges, sand like crazy, oil bath the board, sand again to polish and finish it.
Whew.....
The new folder is called Southwestern v.2
Cash wants equal time with the other pics I am posting
just out of their bath. Starting to like using less walnut
Brother and sister boards. 11 x 13 and 10 x 9
Well, looks like I am officially in business now. Shipping out 2 boards tomorrow. I call the pattern straight forward. Soft tones and more contrasting tones for the boards. Photos added to the cutting boards album.
