If you are currently pregnant and want to do maternity pictures, I always recommend booking your session around 32-36 weeks pregnant.

Newborn pictures are booked around your due date, but can always change depending on when baby makes their arrival. They are best booked in the first two weeks of birth.

One year milestone photos can either be booked a month before their birthday if you are wanting their pictures for their birthday party, or right around their actual birthday.

If you are looking at having these done between January- April, do not hesitate to reach out for your consultation as dates are limited.

One Year Birthday Sessions are a full experience over here at the studio and this little lady loved it! This specific birthday session included three sets.

1. We started with beautiful portraits that are classic and elegant.
2. Cake Smash! She can get messy and dug into her delicious cake enjoying every part of it.
3. Bubble bath. She cleaned up from her messy cake and enjoyed the bubbles being blown at her. What kid doesn't LOVE bubbles?

Do you ever watch your kid from afar and just admire the person they are becoming? Sometimes I watch my kids through a window or keep my distance and watch them play or work and can't help but smile. Some days, my kids are all about being helpful and it brings my heart so much joy. It can be little things like my youngest wanting to help me make coffee in the morning, or it can be big things where they help me deep clean the house without asking because they know I am stressing about not getting it all done. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of times they make me angry, break something, or pick silly fights with their brothers, but there are so many times that I will just watch them and be so proud of the young men they are growing to become.

Today's session was a smashing good time! Little Amethyst is turning one and we went all out for her birthday photos. We started with beautiful portraits of her and with her family, then had a cake smash, and ended with a warm bubble bath. She was full of smiles throughout all of it. I have been photographing this beautiful lady since she was in her mama's tummy, and it has been so much fun getting to see her grow over the last year.

Who here loves the snow?! Snow portraits are absolutely beautiful and have such a unique look to them and I have the perfect skirt to make your daughter look like a little snow princess.

These photos are nearly 5 years apart. 5 years and 2 weeks to be exact. Same boy, same suspenders, but the difference is 5 years of experience.

The second photo was my very first "promotion" of telling friends and family I wanted to pursue this career. Back then, I thought I was pretty good with a camera, but also knew there was room to grow. It has been 5 years of developing my style, learning light techniques, understanding posing and using prompts to gain natural smiles.

I look back and cannot believe it has been 5 years.

Photography isn't just some job I do to help support my family, it is a passion and craft that I love and get to do for other families. I get to create an experience for families to appreciate. I get to photograph kids, parents, and grandparents full of joy. I get to design albums and wall arts for my client's home so when they walk past their wall, they can have a daily reminder of their family they love.

I get asked if I am willing to photograph pets during a family session, the answer? YES!

Pets are part of your family too, and I just love dogs! But I do have a few recommendations if you decide to bring your pet to make it go a bit smoother.

1. Bring your leash. Most parks require you to keep your dog on a leash, if he does great without one, we may take it off for a few photos so that I don't have to edit a leash out, but it is still best to have one with you.

2. P**p bags. You would rather pick it up than step in it during your session.

3. Treats and toys. To get their attention it is nice to have a few treats handy or a squeaky toy to get their ears perked up and looking at the camera. Otherwise, you might hear me bark like a dog to get their attention.

4. A friend. No, I am not talking about another dog to keep your buddy company. I mean a family friend to hold onto his leash and give him belly rubs when we are taking just the human photos.

After I took this photo, I knew I was going to be in love with it, but I didn't know just how much I was going to love this spot with the tree in the river and the colors in the background. I had to wait a couple of days until I could get the photos on my computer since I forgot my cord at home. I regret not making all three of my boys go sit on this tree. But now I have another opportunity to hopefully get all three of my boys to cooperate for a few minutes without falling into the icy cold water.

Brenizer Method

It is time consuming, but it creates such a beautiful panoramic look to an image. This method was created by photographer Ryan Brenizer. Rather than taking an image far away, you piece together multiple images with a shallow depth of field. For an image like this, the method works perfectly.

Last night almost didn't happen.

Earlier this week, Jessica and I went back and forth on if we should reschedule. It was nearly a full week forecasted to rain. With their session focusing on their pup, I knew a lot of posing would be closer to the ground and I kept thinking it was going to be one wet, sloppy, muddy mess.

Then comes the day of their session. The morning started out gray, raining, windy, and so cold. I told myself to hold off until noon to text her, but I debated just rescheduling so I wouldn't have to worry about it all day long.

Noon rolls around and it starts raining again, but the forecast says it is supposed to stop in about an hour. I text her, and do you know what she says? "I want your professional opinion". She wasn't afraid of the dark skies, the wind, or the cold, her focus was on if I thought they would still be beautiful if we took photos Sunday evening.

There have been a lot of rainy days that have been cancelled that I have regretted. The thick clouds that come from a good rain give the most beautiful sunsets and my gut was telling me that might be happening.

She trusted my opinion and we had some amazing skies. Thick clouds, blues and golds, and a soft wind. I am so thankful to the clients who trust me and value my opinion. They are going to love these photos so much and I am so excited to schedule their reveal in a couple of weeks to show them how great they turned out.

I cannot wait to see this photo turned into a beautiful acrylic for this family. There is nothing like that first year with your child and what better way to celebrate than at the beach. From seeing them for the first time as a newborn, to watching those little hands and feet grow. Seeing them take their first little steps and grabbing your leg for a hug. These are the moments we live for and cherish forever.

That what my client told me when she saw this image. I saw her face light up with joy as she looked at this photograph of herself dancing with her husband at the park. They celebrated 40 years of marriage together which is a fairytale in itself. 💕
