On this #TrainerTip day, Genevieve and Johnny demonstrate and explain loose leash walking with your dog! 🐶❤️

In this video Brody demonstrates retrieval of a medicine bottle out of a cabinet! 💊 There are several reasons why retrieval in service dog training is so impactful, which includes but is not limited to: 🐾Enhancing Independence 🐾 Retrieval training plays a critical role in service dogs’ ability to support individuals with disabilities. By being trained to retrieve objects, these dogs can assist their handlers in various daily tasks, such as picking up dropped items or fetching necessary items, ultimately enhancing their sense of independence and reducing reliance on others. 🐾Improving Quality of Life🐾 The ability to retrieve specific items can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Whether it be medication, a phone, or even keys, service dogs trained in retrieval can save valuable time and energy for their handlers. This allows them to focus on their abilities rather than limitations, ultimately increasing their overall well-being and confidence to navigate the world more independently. 🐾Comprehensive Assistance🐾 Retrieval training is not limited to physical objects. Service dogs can also be trained to retrieve help or alert their handlers during emergencies, ensuring their safety and well-being. Whether it’s fetching a phone to call for help or bringing vital medical supplies, these tasks can be life-saving in critical situations. This comprehensive assistance enhances the bond between the handler and their service dog, creating a strong and reliable partnership.

Thank you, CBS 8 San Diego8 for covering our story at the San Diego Airport! San Diego International Airport and Transportation Security Administration - TSA were gracious enough to allow us the opportunity to do an in-person training for our service dogs. This incredible opportunity allows our clients and service dogs in training to simulate their traveling experience, which is extremely helpful for those who struggle with anxiety while traveling. Some more info on Apollo: He knows some basic obedience and does well on a loose leash walk, however, he will pull towards other dogs or new people. Our puppy trainer Megan displays some basic behavior etiquette in the videos shown with Apollo 🐶🐾

We were excited to come together in person for the first time since 2020 to celebrate our graduating Teams from the Class of 2020, Class of 2021, and Class of 2022. In total, we graduated 38 classes during this time and celebrated many of them at Monteleone Meadows last month. As always, it was so moving to have everyone come together and witness the impact our service dogs have on their handlers.

Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at CST! 😍

Happy Golden Retriever Day!
