Did you Know? Switching between varying speeds and terrain (including steep uphill and downhill stretches, as well as slow grades) has become the standard for distance runners hoping to improve their pace? The name for this training is translated from the Swedish words for “speed” and “play”, emphasizing the practice’s frequent changes in running speeds and tempos. Our new incline lunging pad mimics this “speedplay” training. The beautiful thing is it’s dual use, longing and riding. Just another tool to get your horse sound and fit at 3H Equine Rehab Center.

3H CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF SERVICE

Although it’s not completed yet, we’re too excited not to share our new elevated longe pad! This unique training tool will be used to condition horses by allowing them to be longed on a flat surface, as well as on a slight incline. The raised levels will challenge the horse’s fitness by simulating hill-work and improving proprioception skills. Madeira is shown here also using our @equicoreconcepts Pro System, which enables the horse to engage its core and hindquarters by targeting those area with soft rubber bands cinched to a custom saddle pad.

Some may not realize but a big part of rehabbing a horse doesn’t just include treatments and equipment; The second phase begins when the horse is ready to start under saddle again. This is a pivotal time in the rehab process. Bring back too early or too fast and risk re-injury to the original problem or creating a new injury due to lack of fitness/muscle. We use rehab riding as a key instrument in bringing horses back slowly and correctly to ensure a complete recovery. Here is Artie who fractured his navicular as a 4 year old. 15 months later and 2 weeks post surgery, Artie was able to tack walk for the first time! Tack walking allows the horse to carry a rider and help build back some muscle with low stress! We are so excited to see how he progresses!
