Hey Family! Happy Sunday! Breath is Lyfe presents the official music video for the Algiers Ancestor Festival (2022), "Mighty Egun"!

You know, each year for the Algiers Ancestor Festival we have a recap video and song. For 2022, we felt it necessary to highlight the children's voices. I know- without a doubt- that our children are our greatest reminders and gifts. Let their voices and message remind you to play and love and forgive and hope. Certainly, we need those reminders during such harsh times. I promise you'll like it there!

Also, wait until the posters are done!! @goodlinabadlina (Alina Allen) did the painting, of course. We unveiled it at the festival in Nov. We also have a short documentary coming soon, directed by my sweet and talented, @jadefox_ ! Anyway...

Love you ❤️ Enjoy...and share!

Happy Saturday, lovers! On this day, January 28th in 2019, is the day my superhero Daddy transitioned from this realm into another one. I miss him and talk about him everyday. EVERYday! My great great grandchildren will speak his name, I'm certain. Speaking of children... Each year for the Algiers Ancestor Festival we put on, there's a song/video. This year, I kept hearing the children's voices. Their video is dropping tomorrow, Sunday, January 29, 2023. Y'all are gonna be so proud of them. Wait 'til you see/hear them! Certainly, our children are our wealth! It's no coincidence that on today, the day my Daddy died, we celebrated our beloved community mama, Claudette Smith-Brown aka Mayimouna today, as well. While I was coming up with her poem, the only thing I kept seeing was her at my Daddy's funeral. She sat behind me...watching, reassuring, smiling... Oh, she was/is a powerhouse of a woman. Unapologetically African, and could run genealogy and history like no other...all with a long, slim cigarette hanging like somebody's mechanic. Lol!! That's our mama! Lol! Then, today, was also the procession for our other community mama, Mama Barbara Lacen-Keller. A firecracker. Lol. This is her season- Carnival Time. I can see her right now on the stage under the bridge. (New Orleans folk know what I'm talking about) a true community worker, builder, warrior woman, and civic leader. I took this pic of her at Essence last year. Whew! Life is life-ing, family. Live well, stand right, and shine bright. The veil is thin. Thanks be to God we have examples to assist. We're not in it alone. The 3rd annual Algiers Ancestor Festival (Nov 4 & 5, 2022): Founded by two New Orleans natives, Sunni Patterson and Cherelle Blazer, the Algiers Ancestor Festival honors those enslaved beings who were brought to these shores to labor, build, and create infrastructure in the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas. According to historians, it is said that Algiers held "the largest single group of enslaved men, women, and children living in Louisiana." Believing in the unifying power of culture and art, the Algiers Ancestor Festival connects the traditional African Egungun Masquerade with the New Orleans Black Masking tradition, prompting the remembrance, revival, and renewal of collective and community healing. #ancestorapproved #howwecelebrate #howwemourn #sweepthestreets #communitylove #priestwork #thedeadarenotdead #mojubaegun #algiers #neworleans #acrosstharivah #breathislyfe #ideserveit #algiersancestorfestival2022

Hey y'all! Happy Tuesday! We had a fantastic time last night ❤️ my sweet Mazi Moo had a little message to share. She was a little nervous and came to me and said, "Mama, can you stand close? It's just so many adults." I asked her if she wanted to turn around. She said, yes. I'm proud of her...she left Tina at home. (People who came to the show @ashe_cac know who Tina is. Lol!) Golden Girls is my mama's favorite show, so the song is stuck in Mazi's head. She wanted to sing some of the original version, but decided to end it after the first verse. At the next event, (Aug 13th), she said she'll be able to look at people and do the full song. Either way, I'm grateful for this event...and this moment! Thanks @cfreedom504! Thanks @the.blairisms. Thanks @icontheartist. Thanks @taviaosbey. Thanks @maroonworkspace. Thanks, family! Tanka Wanka @tankandthebangas... you!
