Today is an amazing day to support our community partners over at lowernine.org! lowernine.org has worked in Lower Ninth Ward recovery from Hurricane Katrina since 2007, though key staff people were first responders. To date, they have fully built or rebuilt 90 homes, and they have completed repair and renovations on over 300 more. During COVID-19, they pivoted temporarily to a food security program, which they now run in perpetuity with a brick and mortar food pantry.
In 2021, lowernine.org will find themselves a permanent home in the new construction of an HQ/volunteer house built by Shibusa Systems, which will also serve as an office and community space. We envision a learning center and event space, and will be hosting neighborhood association and other public meetings, offering trainings and information sessions, and hosting our monthly community BBQs in this new space.
