Pain is simply how the body communicates.

We have an have an Exploratory Approach and Nurturing Approach in our practice, and when you are “exploratory” you will often encounter pain.

Sometimes we pull back the curtains to see what’s there. As often is the case, we experience pain. In developing your relationship to pain in your practice, please consider this:

Outside of a current acute injury or alarming pain, we don’t avoid pain in practice but appreciate it as the way the body directly communicates with us. When practicing correctly, and you are feeling intense sensations, you are often revealing in the system what are old patterns (mental, emotional or physical) that inhibit the greater health of your system, not just biomechanically but circulatory, hormonal, nervous system, even at the mental and emotional level.

The art of the practicing lies in listening very attentively, moment by monent, with a concentration that comes from a quiet mind and a nervous system at ease. You may adjust pressure/support in real time, as needed or directed - and at times reframe the entire experience from a place of wisdom.

Consider this as well: the goal is not to eliminate the experience of pain. If we did that, we would be numb and likely distancing ourselves from “reality.” Our goal is to recapture the greatest functionality we were born with as our potential but have lost in time.

Remember that the transformation process that the method delivers lies in the consistency of practice.

Keep practicing!

Yesterday we celebrated the 70th birthday of my mother Salete, who is also a yoga teacher.

She began studying and teaching yoga over 20 years ago. Today she continues teaching (almost every day of the week) and more than ever she is willing to walk, play with her grandchildren, travel, go out with friends and have fun.

We are happy to celebrate both her birthday but also the health and vitality that yoga has given her over the years. By dedicating a little time to ourselves daily, both for the body and the mind, we learn to better process the stress of daily life well and to carry out our personal and professional activities with greater enjoyment and balance.

Professora Salete, mom, congratulations on her day.

And if you want to practice with us, let us know too. You can practice every day, without needing to leave home!

Ancient yogis would say yoga rejuvenates your body.
Modern science and brain plasticity say it also rejuvenates your brain.

A brand new student who practiced with us here in Brazil for a week of Kaiut Yoga went back to Jazz Fest in New Orleans and was able to enjoy time sitting in the grass with his friends (and recharging throughout a long day on the feet.) Sitting crosslegged was something he had never been comfortable doing in his festing years! (He’s been a Jazz Fest goer for decades.)

Evolving with the Times

We identify kaiut yoga method’s effect on the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) as a key ingredient in a recipe for healing. In short, the PSNS is online during the state of relaxation and most of the regenerative capacity of the body is accessed in the relaxed state (typically with quality rest and good sleep.)

But what happens when the demands exceed the current capacity of our system?

Everybody has experienced this at some point, for brief or sometimes longer periods, which is natural, but as a chronic condition (or a as a profoundly deteriorating one), it is unnatural and modern life seems to be heightening the demands to the point of things being “unnatural” or to a state of nature a significant portion of the population is not (at least yet) fully adapted to.

So, in the spirit of our species, we adapt, evolve and overcome. See you on your mat!

Why is sleeping well so important?

Sleeping well helps the body fight infections and stay healthy, as during sleep the body produces extra proteins that make the immune system stronger, especially in stressful situations. When we practice yoga before bed, we condition our body and mind to a state of deep relaxation. Therefore, regular practice helps, mainly, people with insomnia to sleep longer, improving the quality of sleep. Visit our collection of classes called “Yoga for Sleeping Well” and enjoy your sweet dreams :)—

Ground effects of yoga refer to the calming and centering effects that practicing yoga can have on the mind and body. Yoga often involves postures, breathing exercises, and meditation that promote relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance a sense of connection with the present moment. These grounding effects can lead to improved mental clarity, emotional balance, and a greater overall sense of well-being.

Our student Mark is celebrating 1 year as a cancer survivor. And during the treatment he rarely missed a class. We were thrilled to see how Yoga supported him in his healing journey. In cancer treatment yoga can support a patient by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being. It may help manage treatment side effects, enhance flexibility and strength, and boost mental clarity. It’s important to consult with healthcare professionals before incorporating yoga into a cancer treatment plan. Congratulations for your determination and commitment with your own health. 🤍🙏🏼

🇺🇸Regenerating the body can involve natural healing mechanisms, medical interventions, or advancements in biotechnology. Regeneration can occur at various levels of the body. In our classes we stimulate the body's natural regenerative capabilities. With our therapeutic yoga classes we provide the conditions to the body to heal and repair naturaly.

Here are a few ways yoga can contribute to the regeneration of the body:

1. Stress reduction: Yoga can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Chronic stress can negatively impact the body's regenerative capacities, so by managing stress levels, yoga indirectly supports the body's ability to heal and regenerate.

2. Improved circulation: Yoga poses and movements can enhance blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to various body parts. This improved circulation can aid in tissue repair and regeneration.

3. Flexibility and mobility: Regular yoga practice can improve flexibility, joint mobility, and muscular strength. This can help maintain the health and function of the musculoskeletal system and support the body's overall regenerative capabilities.

4. Mind-body connection: Yoga emphasizes the mind-body connection, promoting awareness and mindfulness. This heightened mind-body connection can enhance the body's innate ability to heal and regenerate by improving self-awareness and facilitating the body's natural healing mechanisms.

While yoga can be beneficial for the body's overall well-being and indirectly support regeneration, it's important to note that significant tissue regeneration or repair typically requires more targeted medical interventions or treatments, depending on the specific condition or injury.

Hello dear students,

In all these years of teaching yoga, I have noticed that with aging, bones and joints become one of the biggest concerns and sources of pain and problems for many of my students. I would like to share some food for thought with you today how yoga can be beneficial for bones in many ways.

When we do weight-bearing yoga postures, such as standing or leg-up postures, they help us strengthen our bones by putting pressure on them, stimulating bone remodeling and increasing bone density. This can be especially advantageous for preventing osteoporosis and improving overall bone health.

Our classes promote better posture and better body alignment, which can reduce your risk of developing skeletal imbalances and related issues. Proper alignment also protects joints, including those in the spine, hips and knees, reducing the risk of injury and promoting joint health as well as helping to prevent conditions like arthritis. Also, yoga practices often involve gentle stretching and rotating movements of the chest and torso, which improves flexibility, mobility, and the opportunity to breathe more freely and efficiently.

Do you remember that feeling of relaxation and inner calm after class? Practicing yoga is known to help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Chronic stress also can have negative effects on bone health, so managing stress levels through yoga can indirectly support your bones.

What is meditation? Is a practice in which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity or breath – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
