Q&A about Joe's Time Machines:

Q: Are these made of wood?
A: Partly... the backing of the clocks are two sheets of Masonite that have been cut to form, glued, and placed under very heavy weight overnight to cure into a very hard, very stiff backing.

Q: So what's on the front? What material am I looking at?
A: I cut archival watercolor paper, which, when you hold it, feels like leather. It's incredibly strong, thick and durable, acid-free, and, like the Masonite, is layered using high-quality glue that creates "brick-like" elements that I paint with acrylic paints. I've found that 4 sheets of it glued together give an element a thickness that really works!!!

Q: It's paper?
A: It's watercolor paper, layered, painted, and then given three applications of clear-coat, which creates incredible durability and even UV protection so the colors will never fade. And remember, the long-lasting, high-quality durable painted watercolor paper is mounted on super-hard double sheets of Masonite. These clocks will survive the impact of the asteroid slamming into the planet! Future archeologists will cite them as evidence of our sophistication and fascination with time.

Q: What about the "clock" part... what moves the hands?
A: That's referred to as "the movement" and I purchase them from a company out of Wisconsin called KlockIt. They're a family business and they're just great to work with!

Q: I like some of the styles you create, but I'd rather different colors. Can I get them?
A: Absolutely! I love to make custom Time Machines for my customers. In fact, I'll take photos of the process along the way and you'll have input at each step! I'll make you exactly the clock you want in your home or office!

Q: How do you ship them? Will they arrive safely?
A: I ship these a "box in a box" style. In fact, the inner box is a pizza box, which I discovered is just perfect. I create a sort of "nest" inside the pizza box which holds the clock in place. Then I add some packing, close the box and tape it shut. The clock doesn't move relative to the pizza box. Then, the pizza box goes into a carton and I ship using UPS. I've had zero damage using this method and this carrier, but also, all shipments are insured.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: Most customers tend to use Zelle or CashApp, but I can accept debit or credit cards, too. A purchase through the Etsy site is possible, but invariably customers reach out to me after seeing pieces on Etsy and then choose a different payment method that is more direct, without any "middleman" involved.

Q: So, okay, I see a clock I like, I want a different color theme, you ship safely with reliable materials, but how long would it take?
A: I can put this studio into any gear you need. If it's a rush, I'll get it there. If you want it to arrive in a week, I'll make that happen too.

Q: When I look on the Internet, I see clocks for $45 bucks. Yours are more expensive. Why?
A: The first and best answer is that these are exceptionally beautiful time pieces; they are high-quality artworks. They are lasting and durable; you'll pass them along to your children someday. They are made just for you! And I've elevated my craft into the highest form. You're not just buying the time; you're buying excellence in every regard.

Q: Can I reach out to you directly to order one right now?
A: You sure can! Call 386 290 2862. Or email me at [email protected]

Q: I've seen some videos you've made. What's that about?
A: I'd like to explore art, motivations, definitions... what's art all about? I want to show my studio to my viewers, too. I call them "Next Time" and I'll do about 4 each week, I think. It's been a learning curve, for sure, but I'm enjoying it very much and viewers seem to like it too. Please don't hesitate to reach out with comments or suggestions. I welcome your involvement.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!

WHAT OTHERS HAVE WRITTEN:

“Autographic and collectible.” Steve Martin, curator, gallery owner, Steve Martin Gallery

“Joe Kight's sophisticated, streamlined constructions are like visual haiku in which the natural world is reduced to a few perfectly selected optic syllables."
Doug MacCash, Art Critic, The Times-Picayune

"Joe Kight transforms the elements of art, space, form, line, and color, into elegant, exciting three-dimensional assemblages where the sensuous grace of a curve and the punch of pigment make for designs that appear to mingle and float, seeking their unique spacial order. There's a certain kind of humor in his work that's quite obvious, a kind of joyfulness. Kight's designs, with their bright forms and playful shapes are distillations of his thoughts that surface during calculated manipulation of wire and art board. The expression of his work does not live in the description of the objects, but within the nature of the lines and the placement of the shapes. It's an amazing combination of skill and imagination."

The Sara Series of Joe's Time Machines

The common element of this series is the roundness of them... overall round backing and hourly markers. I love the fresh and easy feel of these clocks. They're very easy to read and look beautiful! They measure at just under 12 inches across, making a perfect size that fits nicely in any room.

Sara Series Time Machines are priced at $110.

As with all of my clocks, the stiff and strong backing is created from two-ply Masonite board. The clock face is made from durable and high quality watercolor paper, painted with acrylic paints. The entire clock goes into the spray booth for three coats of matte clear coat, providing UV protection and added strength. I give special attention to every edge of the clock to be sure it is entirely sealed. These clocks will provide you with decades of reliable time-keeping.

(These sculptures are part of a private collection and are not available for purchase.) Some years ago, I was commissioned to create a set of united pieces using painted acrylic. These are small pieces, all within 12 inches or so.

They're dynamic and fun, compelling and intriguing.

I hope you enjoy them!!

The Jimmy D Series of Joe's Time Machines

These beauties are named for two artists I know and greatly respect... both are Jimmy D! I've given myself some freedom with these, mixing complexity with predictability and variety.

They measure just under 12 inches across, making for a perfect size to fit easily in about any space.

The Jimmy D Time Machines are $180 owing to the complex and layered construction of these fine clocks.

As with all of my Time Machines, the strong and stiff backing is made from two-ply Masonite board. The clock face is watercolor paper - very strong and durable -- painted with acrylic paint. Every Time Machine goes into the spray booth for three coats of matte clear coat, which provides not only added strength but UV protection, too. I pay very close attention to every edge of the clock.

Please jump over to my Etsy site, pinned to the top of my page here, to order your own Jimmy D Series of Joe's Time Machines!

The Jean-Luc Series of Joe's Time Machines

This four-pointed cosmic reference honors my God Son, Jean-Luc. He was born on Christmas Eve and the kid is a true star! Stretching 15 inches across, this clock draws the attention in the room.

As with all of my Time Machines, the backing is created from two-ply Masonite board, while the clock face is created from durable and high-quality watercolor paper painted with acrylic paints. Every Time Machines goes into the spray booth for three coats of matte clear coat, with special attention given to every edge on the clock. This seals it up completely and provides not only UV protection but added durability.

The Jean-Luc Series is $130 and is available through Etsy or by messaging me directly. Thank you so very much!

The Ida Series of Joe's Time Machines

This very popular series combines style and contemporary tastes. It's named for a great dog, Ida, who passionately snatched flying disks out of the air, Frisbees!

The clock measures just under 12 across.

The Ida Series Time Machines are $130.

Please visit my Etsy page to purchase... or just contact me and we'll send one of these beautiful Time Machines your way.

Thank you

The Richie Series of Joe's Time Machines

This mid-century modern looking Time Machine is named to remember a wonderful man, my cousin. The gorgeous styling works off of rounded edge squares, the deep chocolate brown background with six more on the clock face Notice that the 12 is the left edge of the orange square; the 3 is the horizontal edge of the small square; the 6 is the right edge of the yellow, and 9 is the bottom edge of the robin egg blue.

It's gorgeous!

The Richie Series clocks are $130. Please visit my Etsy site to order your Time Machine! Or message me and we'll ship one to you right away!

The Celebration Series of Joe's Time Machines

These vibrant and exciting clocks live up to their name: a celebration of Life! There's a small variation I'd like you to notice... I've made two of these clocks. One of them has a blue ring around a white center at the 11, 1, 5, and 7. Notice that the other clock mixes it up a bit more!! I've placed the blue ring at the 10 and 2, 5 and 7... this creates a visual symmetry that keeps the clock easy to read, but creates an even more vibrant visual mix. When you order your Celebration Series clock, please take note of this variation. Or contact me and we'll discuss it to be sure!

The Celebration Series clocks are $200

As with all my Time Machines, the stiff and strong backing is made from two-ply Masonite board. The clock face is durable and high-quality watercolor paper, painted with acrylic paints. The entire clock goes into the spray booth for three coats of matte clear coat, with special attention given to every edge of the clock.

Thank you so very much!!

The Vera Series of Joe's Time Machines

Each series of my clocks honors or remembers special lives in my life.... And this series remembers my Mom.

The scalloped / rounded edge of these clocks is the unifying characteristic of this series. Easy to read and lovely to view, I hope you enjoy them!!!!

10/06/2019

The Lucille Series of Joe's Time Machines

The beautiful flow of the Lucille Series creates an elegant clock face... easy to read and lovely to view.

As with all of my Time Machines, the stiff and strong backing is two-ply Masonite board. The face is made using high quality and very durable watercolor paper, painted with acrylic paints. The entire clock receives three coats of matte clear coat, with special attention given to every edge of the clock.

The Lucille Series clocks are $160
Available, along will all my art and Time Machines, at my etsy store, which is pinned to the top of my page.

Your Time, My Passion

It’s a pleasure to offer you my newest work: Joe’s Time Machines!

My gratitude goes out to so many of you who have, and continue, to contribute to my efforts. To Gunner Guidry, architect and friend, who suggested the very fine moniker... a clock being a machine that tells time, eh? To Rachel and Antoine, to all my friends from Florida... to my New Orleans padres who have been such a help in forming my ideas and ultimately shaping my product. I’m very grateful to you all.

Thank you
