RARE view of North Rampart & Esplanade in 1864. Photographed by Marshall Dunham. Marshall was a native New York & was stationed in New Orleans with the Union Army as a First Lieutenant w/the U.S. Colored Troops (USCT). This would be 1 year before the end of the Civil War ⚜⚜

Sharing this old shot of Dumaine Street again (since I shared a present day photo of a house in this same block today)...Love the woman poking her face around the swinging doors. The kids are wonderful, too! Only one of the two Spanish Colonial homes on the right still stand today in the French Quarter (with terracotta tile accents at roofline) *colorized* Present day view in comments 🥰⚜

I love the exposed “briquette-entre-poteaux” aka brick between posts buildings in the Quarter. This home was built arnd 1820-25. The brick b/t posts was not originally left exposed. Leaving the brick & wood exposed is not so great for the home...even when sealed. Preservationists prefer for the exterior to be covered with stucco to protect the delicate lake brick & wood from further deterioration. It does look really pretty, though! ❤⚜

Wow. Found an old shot of mine of the Old Grove in City Park. Recently, some of these trees were cut down. 3 of the live oaks on the right were cut down due to termite damage & stress from last years drought 😥 The trees were huge and gorgeous. I actually got teary eyed when I saw them being cut down...I am just so glad I found this panoramic shot 🙏💚🌳

Rare shot of 200 Exchange Place 👀 This alley is directly behind the Hotel Monteleone. Today the alley is pretty much used only by the hotel. It is much different now. The right hand side of buildings in the alley would change when The Monteleone would add onto their hotel in 1908. Present day, buildings on the left are pretty much the same. I love how it looked back in 1900! A great capture back in time 😍⚜ *colorized* Shot of how it looks today in comments.
