Happy Summer from Goat in the Road! Hope it's a wonderful and relaxing one.

We are resting and rejuvenating and reflecting on all we did in 2023-24 (year 15).

We are proud to say that we:
- Sent $9,000 to Lisova Polyana Rehabilitation Center in Kyiv, Ukraine to provide direct aid to Ukrainian soldiers.
- Paid over $264,000 to artists in NOLA.
- Accomplished all the great things listed in our graphic!

More info coming about our next season in August.

Thank you, Cassandra for all of your work to make this possible! We look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate across the nation!

Have you heard?!

We are so proud and honored to announce that we have received a New England Foundation for the Arts National Theater Grant for Carlota!

The National Theater Project (NTP) promotes the development and touring of artist-led, ensemble, and devised theater works. We are so elated to have been chosen for this grant and to be able to tell the story of Carlota!

Carlota is a new musical that will explore the life and descendents of Carlota Ruíz de González. The character is a historical composite created by Dr. Denise Frazier in 2018 as part of Goat in the Road’s immersive show, The Stranger Disease, and re-visited in the digital project, Sick Note: Letters from the Epidemic. Now, the company is creating a full musical experience based around Frazier’s work. The show will jump through generations, charting the way trauma and joy are passed down from one descendent to the next. Carlota is the story of how one person’s story can ripple down through time, lapping against our bodies and whispering to us.

Thank you to for this prestigious honor and to all who support The Goats!

Play/Write is over… until next year!

Thanks to the hundreds of folks who came out last week for our Play/Write Showcase nights at the University of New Orleans. It was a wonderful celebration of student voice and youth writers, and we can’t wait to be back next year with more wonderful, hilarious, brain-melting plays!

A big shout out to all our playwrights, schools, the actors and companies who helped these plays come to life, and to all our funders who made this possible!

Over the past 15 Years, we have proudly created novel works for your inspiration and enjoyment! Please support our campaign to help us continue to expand our reach in telling impactful stories that last… like NUMB.

“With each playing more than one character, their work in using their voices and bodies to not only create human portraits but a time period as well is striking. In particular, their vocal work captures a rhythm that seems of another world… [Numb] lingers in the system long after the company has taken its final bow.”

Ensemble Member Dylan Hunter is the Sound Designer for Two Elizas created and performed b y Jenny Mercein and directed by Lori Elizabeth and Ryder Thornton!

Show Information:
Described by Los Angeles critic Samantha Simmonds-Ronceros as “the personification of all that is perfect and true in a solo theatre play” and hailed by New Jersey critic Allen Neuner as “a one-woman tour-de-force,” the Hermann-Grima House is proud to present TWO ELIZAS by Jenny Mercein. This acclaimed solo show explores the true story of Jenny’s ancestor Eliza Mercein Barry and her landmark 1847 U.S. Supreme Court case, Barry v. Mercein, which established a woman’s right to retain custody of her child. In an emotionally gripping intergenerational reflection on resilience and women’s rights, Jenny mirrors her ancestor with her own trials and tribulations to motherhood. Don’t miss the show NJ Arts Maven called “a terrific character study of two very interesting women, alike in their feistiness, independence and pride” and “a poignant reminder that women have come a long way…and have a long way to go.”
