We get to direct protected wellness days every quarter to get together or just take a break. As busy as residency can be, we know the importance of taking time to just be humans 😌

We had a great journal club yesterday evening along with our Tulane Plastic Surgery colleagues . The food was fantastic and the discussion was lively!
Thank you for coming to New Orleans and having an amazing discussion with us about RPNI and your next chapter in peripheral nerve innovation! We learned so much about nerve reconstruction, medical devices and balancing the triple threat of being a surgeon, researcher and teacher.
As we celebrate Easter weekend, let's not forget the importance of giving back to those in need. This weekend, some of the residents had the honor of volunteering at the New Orleans food bank, where they helped provide meals for those who are less fortunate. It was a humbling experience, and a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life. So, as you enjoy your holiday weekend, consider giving back to your community and spreading some love and kindness. Happy Easter! 🐰🥚🌷

Repost • My dear friend and mentor Jamie Zampell] has brought attention to this important topic. Please see her post below.
“Let’s talk for a moment about the decision to remove billing codes for breast reconstructive procedures, like the DIEP flap from insurance fee schedules.
Removal of these important codes will reduce the ability of women to use their health insurance to cover these potentially costly procedures. Many of my patients, if not 90-95% of them depend upon their health insurance to cover reconstructive procedures. So this is a devastating development for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
It will be exceedingly difficult as a surgeon to perform procedures that women cannot access through health insurance. To be clear, this decision completely degrades the complexity of intricate perforator flaps currently performed to be equated with an archaic procedure described many decades ago, that uses a woman’s entire abdominal re**us muscle, to create a breast. The level of refinement, time, training, preoperative planning, and additional intra-operative decision making has been completely overlooked in the making of this decision. I am devastated for breast cancer survivors.”
Please visit .org or Jamie Zampell] website zampellplasticsurgery.com/advocacy to learn how you can take action to help reverse these decisions.
This patient presented to UMC following a sharp laceration to the AC fossa with transection of the biceps tendon and radial nerve. Here Dr. Lim (PGY5) is walking Dr. Palines (PGY1) through radial nerve reconstruction with LABC cable graft!

Why plastic surgery: I love the impact you can have on someone’s quality of life and help people regain function with the skill set we learn. It’s also one of the few specialities in which you have the opportunity to have vulnerable conversations with patients and help them through really tough times in their lives.
What do you love about New Orleans: The food scene is amazing here and with the unique neighborhoods, there’s always something fun for you to do when you’re off. And everyone always wants to come visit!
Fun fact: I wanted to be an art teacher when I was a kid.
