ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: Within a five year stretch, Stephen Boulhosa had a collection of original poetry (You Only Get What You Settle For) published, his first full length play, Wi**er, accepted to be performed on Off-Broadway and his screenplay, The Family Tree, named a finalist for HBO’s Project Greenlight. Stephen thought it would always be so easy. Stephen was wrong. He began writing Eddie Doran’s Deal as a one man show some 20 years ago. The play (and Stephen) have evolved and he is now pleased to present his finest work at the 2021 Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. Stephen is a graduate of Fordham University and a member of the Playwrights Center.
One month from today at this time opening night of Eddie Doran’s Deal will be in progress at Theatre Row, 411 W. 42nd St. To commemorate the moment I thought I’d include a page of dialogue from Act I, Scene 2 between Eddie and his lovable landlord Mrs. Herlihy. I am certain that most of my Facebook friends will have no trouble conjuring up images of the feisty Mrs. Herlihy types they’ve met along the way and even less trouble hearing the lines delivered in her familiar Irish brogue. ☘️Slainte☘️
I cannot imagine a scenario in which our auditions last week for the three roles in Eddie Doran’s Deal could have gone any better. A tremendous amount of talent walked through the door that night and my already high opinion of actors and their dedication to their craft has risen to even loftier heights.
While several ‘contenders’ could have no doubt done the respective parts justice, I am happy to report that the actors awarded the roles were all the first choice of each of the three decision makers in the room. Their talent made our decision easier that night and for that, I am eternally grateful. I cannot wait to see them breathe life into the characters I have known only on the page and in my imagination for a good many years now.
And so, without further delay, I introduce to you the incredibly talented cast of Eddie Doran’s Deal.
Auditions for 'Eddie Doran's Deal' took place on Monday, August 2nd. They went very, very well and we do in fact have our cast in place, but before I introduce you to them, there is someone else you should meet first.
I've realized that I have been completely remiss in not mentioning our Director, Noel MacDuffie, to this point. Noel and I started working together on 'Eddie Doran's Deal' in April of 2020. he has stuck with me through two postponements due to COVID, a sea of uncertainty, 18 drafts and a slew of panicked emails. Noel is talented, a steady hand, organized, experienced and patient. I believe we have worked so well together because we both have one singular goal in mind—to make this play as good as it can possibly be. And we will keep working over the next month and a half or so to do just that.
Third time's the charm? I sure hope so!!
On April 16, 2020 I announced on Facebook that my original full length play, EDDIE'S DORAN'S DEAL, had been selected for the 2020 Broadway Bound Festival in NYC. At the time the Festival was to take place in August 2020. As we now know, almost NOTHING took place in August 2020 here in New York and especially not in the the theater district.
Due to COVID-19 the Festival dates were rescheduled for February 2021. The chances of that actually happening seemed so slim to me that I held off announcing the change here.
Today however I am confident and pleased that the now 2021 Broadway Bound Theatre Festival will run from September 6 - October 3, 2021 at Theatre Row (theater) at 410 W. 42nd St. (just west of 9th Ave).
My play, EDDIE DORAN'S DEAL, set in a studio apartment in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, will run on the following dates:
My talented (and patient!) Director Noel MacDuffie has stuck with me through this entire process. Through the course of the past year and with Noel's assistance, EDDIE DORAN'S DEAL has improved by leaps and bounds. I am excited to share the play and this entire experience with all of you. Hopefully you are available, or can make yourself available, to come check it out in September.
I will be posting more information re: tickets going on sale, the casting process, rehearsals, the Theatre Row space and me pulling my hair out here, so keep an eye out.
Additional details regarding the Festival can be found at https://www.broadwayboundfestival.com/
As always, thanks for all the support and love. Be well!
Steve
BREAKING NEWS: Today The Broadway League announced that due to COVID-19 concerns, Broadway theaters will be 'dark' until at least Labor Day. The HollywoodReporter.com article I read when on to say the 'smart money' is actually on a January 2021 re-open date.
With that in mind, the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival today proactively rescheduled the festival to run from FEBRUARY 1 - FEBRAURY 21, 2021.
More information to follow as it becomes available!

EDDIE DORAN'S DEAL
Eddie Doran’s alcoholism, infidelity and explosive temper have already cost him his relationship with his father & brothers, his marriage, and -- possibly the only thing he still cares about -- his young daughter. Knowing he’s created his own misery and ready to end his life, Eddie decides to play a dangerous game of Russian Roulette with himself, one that will either leave him dead or with a reason to keep living.
