#Flamenco is a beautiful art form and a fantastic activity for senior citizens. Our community members always have a splendid time with dance instructor Aurora Reyes, who teaches them the rhythmic movements and expressive gestures of Flamenco. 💃🏽

What better way to spend the morning than coloring, drawing, and expressing your creativity through art? 🖼️🎨 Our seniors learned how to sketch the India Gate, a monumental sandstone arch in New Delhi, and a vase of flowers, adding a creative flare to their artwork. This is all thanks to @geuryunglee from @jamaicaartscenter and the NYC Council’s SU-CASA initiative, a community arts engagement program that places artists and arts organizations in residence at senior centers across the five boroughs of NYC. Thank you to @cmsandraung for ensuring SACSS is connected with J-CAL through this program that our seniors love! ❤️

Music 🎶 therapy is an incredibly powerful tool that can help people in so many different ways. Yesterday, our Wednesdays For Women program participants had a blast belting out their favorite tunes during an awesome karaoke 🎤 session! It’s amazing how music can empower us and bring so much joy, and the positive effects it can have on our mental and emotional well-being. #MusicTherapy #Karaoke #MentalWellness #WednesdaysForWomen #SACSS

It’s the best day of the week for participants in our Wednesdays for Women program ✨ They enjoyed painting ceramic flower pots during an arts & crafts session that was fun, creative, and therapeutic! 🎨🖌️🌸

Recently, our beloved seniors spent a blissful day at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden wandering through the lush greenery, and basking in the vibrant hues of the flowers and exotic plants that surrounded them. It was truly a beautiful day to remember that brought smiles to their faces! 🌸🪷🌷 #BrooklynBotanicGarden #SACSS #SeniorTrip

Participants in our Wednesdays for Women program experimented with different ingredients, scents, and colors to create their own custom soaps! 🧼 Not only did they leave with a unique and lovely scented product, but they also had the satisfaction of knowing they made it themselves! 🙌🏽 #WednesdaysForWomen #Wellness #SoapMaking #SACSS

Last week, we were excited to host our first-ever ‘March Makeover’ event with celebrity makeup artist Kanwal Batool (@iamkanwalbatool), who led a makeup demonstration for our senior women at our #SACSS community center. We appreciate Kanwal taking the time to come by SACSS and teach our seniors simple #makeup tips and tricks to help them feel empowered, motivated, and confident! ❤️

When one door closes, we make sure our seniors can dance through another! At #SACSS #senior center, we try to never miss a beat. So this month, while our yoga teacher has been away, we asked our seniors to exchange their #yoga mats for #dancing shoes to discover the fun of #salsa classes. And they sure showed us how this can be done!

We are so grateful to have been able to serve 175,000+ clients in 2022 and look forward to serving as many and more in 2023! #SACSS thanks all our donors, public officials and, of course, our board, staff, families, and beloved community members for supporting us with love, generosity and everything we require to do our work well. We wish you all a happy, healthy, and peaceful new year! #2023 #HappyNewYear

TODAY IS THE DAY! The immigrant community’s voice and #VOTE matter in deciding the future of our city… and country. On Election Day, we have an opportunity to make our voices heard at the ballot box. (P.S. Polls close at 9pm!) You can make a plan to vote here: https://vote.nyc/

🎤🎵 It’s time to #sing your heart out at the #SeniorCenter! Each month, South Asian Council for Social Services hosts Seniors #Karaoke where everyone has a blast singing in front of a supportive audience once a month. Stay tuned for our next Seniors #KaraokeNight!

South Asian Council for Social Services is so delighted to share that we have not one, but two beautiful new #murals created by artists @Katie.Yamasaki and @Caleb.Neelon The new murals feature the trademark sea of colorful dots surrounding faces that give a glimpse of the millions who make their home in #Queens. The murals face each other as you enter the #SACSS Community Center providing a warm, colorful, and celebratory welcome to all! Come on over and check them out!

Here is a little excerpt of our executive director, Sudha Acharya's comments on SACSS's work, and power of women, while speaking at the Power Women of Queens Award event recently. Organized by Schneps Media, publishers of QNS, TimesLedger Newspapers, El Correo NY and Caribbean Life News, the event honors fearless women leaders who make Queens the thriving and vibrant place it is to work, live, and do business in.
