NYPD Guyanese American Law Enforcement Association also known as GALEA is a nonprofit organization.
On November 19th, GALEA members attended Guardians Association of the New York City Police Department 41st Annual Memorial Breakfast.
For Thanksgiving 2023, GALEA volunteered at Cityline Ozone Park Civilian Patrol food pantry in Queens, NY. We celebrated and served 375 Thanksgiving meals to families.

GALEA members supported on their first 5K run event in Prospect Park. Our member, Officer Mattar, came in 2nd place for the male section for his age group. 🥳🏅
We would like to recognize our member, Detective Liverpool, whose fast action and training saved a child’s life while in Guyana for Det. Holder’s memorial. Even on vacation, we are still on the duty. We would like to wish the child a speedy recovery. Thank you for your service Detective Liverpool.
As we continue our mission to support the Guyanese community; this year’s memorial fundraiser was able to support two communities in Guyana. We were able to give away shoes, clothes and food to children in the Tiger Bay and Leopold community. Thank you to everyone who donated and prepared the food.
Guyana Police Force
On October 21st, Comissioner Hickens of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) held a Cocktail reception for our members and Detective Holder’s family.
During the evening, Commissioner Hickens presented two plaques and the Guyana Police Force’s flag to the President, Det Jafferalli and Chief McPherson.
To show our gratitude, we presented a plaque to the GPF and Commissioner Hickens along with some goodies from the DEA by Det. Quinn. Lastly, we made a donation to the GPF Widows & children fund which was presented to our host, Superintendent Moore.
Thank you again to the GPF for their support and hospitality during our stay in Guyana.
Today, we remembered Officer Gladstone Haynes, who tragically lost his life last year, while vacationing in Guyana.

Every year, GALEA honors Detective Holder by hosting a memorial service in Guyana at Brickdam Cathedral.

Fraternal Day at the academy is a great opportunity to meet new police officers in training and tell them about our great organization. We were able to recruit 20 new members. The future starts with them and we look forward to seeing all the great things they will accomplish.
