Operation Kid Comfort

COMFORT CREW…We will be needed again as we face another natural disaster here in the US. We know that there will be devastation once again in Florida as we prepare for Hurricane Irma to make landfall. We have all been watching the news and weather forecasts/updates and know that this storm will be one to make history (and catastrophic in some areas). Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who will be affected by this storm and with all the first responders who will be dealing with the rescue operations. We pray for their safety during and after this storm.
I am trying to get a jump start in this collection so that we can reach as many people as possible who may be able to assist us with this mission. The more people we reach and the more people who can assist us means the more people we can help in this situation. We will be collecting Gift Cards to assist those who will be affected by this storm. Gift Cards that work out best are ones that can be used in various locations, such as Home Depot, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Walmart, Target, VISA, AMEX, Mastercard, etc. We also ask that Gift Cards be sent in smaller amounts so they can be distributed to more families.

We ask that all Gift Cards be mailed out or dropped off by October 31st, 2017 so that we have enough time to collect as many gift cards as possible and so that we have time to get the gift cards out to those in need for the Holiday Season.
We also will continue our collection for Texas and those affected from Hurricane Harvey so please do not forget that mission as well.
I thank everyone who has supported our missions in the past, who have generously donated to others in their time of need. Operation Kid Comfort has been able to assist many families throughout this country because of the generosity and support from the entire “Comfort Crew”.
Please make sure that you write on the envelope or a note inside the envelope with which area you would like the Gift Card to go to (Florida or Texas).
Many people ask what the gift cards can be used for and why people need them so I figured I can answer that now in advance. As someone who has lived through a natural disaster (Hurricane Sandy in Breezy Point, NY), I know firsthand what it is like in the moments right after a storm or disaster of this magnitude. First you go through a state of shock, thinking is this really happening and trying to figure out why. Then you go through the recovery stage and you try to salvage what you can and do what you must do to clean out/gut your home, throw out all your belongings and start the rebuilding process. You need to find a new location for you and your family to live until you can rebuild, for some find new schools for your children to attend and start a new “normal” that you must make work. Once you set that all up you then try to settle in to your new “temporary way of life”. So, you find that apartment/house that you rent, start purchasing new furniture, clothes, dishes, household goods, etc. that are necessary to live. You realize that all the things you once had you no longer do at that moment (things you don’t even think about like a set of towels so you can dry off with after you shower, ketchup in the fridge when your kids ask for it, dishes and pots and pans to cook with, a blanket to sleep with, etc.). This is where the gift cards come in. These are the things that people can use the gift cards for so they can start to rebuild their lives. It is a long and tiring process and for some it takes months, for others it could take years, but eventually you will get back to your “old normal”. You go through the roller coaster of emotions where you are sad, angry, upset, tired, confused, shocked, etc…. but at the end of it all you can take a step back and smile and laugh and be happy because there are so many great people out there who you don’t even know willing to step up and assist you in your darkest times. That is what kept me and my son going through the process. Knowing how many people were there to help and support us will always help me keep my faith in humanity.
So, I am asking everyone to please spread the word about our efforts, send a gift card or two if you can and just reach out and see what you can do to help others during these difficult days and journey ahead.
My message to Florida and Texas…please know that you are not alone. I know that the road ahead seems long and dark now for you, but remember that we are here to help, you are loved by many from all over the world and we are here to support you. You will get through this, you will bounce back and you will be OK. Reach out if you need us and just keep the faith, knowing that everything will work out. You may not realize that now, but you will get there. We are all here for you and will continue to be here as long as you need us.

Please help support a neighbor and friend in need. Mary had an accident in her home around Easter which resulted in a severe spinal cord injury leaving her paralyzed. Money raised will help pay for the round the clock care that Mary will now need, assistance paying medical bills, and for renovations to her home to make it handicapped accessible for her.
