It’s the middle of August and in my newsletter this week, I’m discussing my recent hiatus and how that taught me to move from a place of safety.

That internal safety allows me to have a feeling of security and to carry it with me wherever I go. It gives me a barometer to better decipher my experiences.
And boy am I hungry for experiences!

But today I shed light on the essence of the woman she was and all of her best qualities I get the pleasure to embody.

To Cindy, may I continue to make you proud every single day. Let your wisdom and grace move through me, even when it feels the world is a place that won’t comprehend. You were a true Pisces ♓️ and stayed in a dreamland state, the healer of many, yet failed yourself. My gratitude is endless for releasing me and still continuing to guide me through this walk on earth. I promise to fulfill your love for big hair and dirty hands with grace and grit everyday, especially today, your birthday.

Happy Black History Month. As we all grapple with the painful and horrific death of Tyre Nichols, I continue to reflect on how far we have to go to truly reach equality in this country. Systemic racism has impacted every sector of society, yet Black people continue to rise and thrive despite every obstacle thrown their way.

So, while we celebrate the Black community every day at Beyond Texture, this month I will be celebrating Black History Month by highlighting different Black women from our community through our wash and go Instagram Live series. Stay tuned for weekly updates!

Our first live is on Sunday, February 5th at 1:30 pm ET, where I will be working with Mei on how to take care of and style her tight coils after her big chop!

Hey, I know it can be frustrating loving on your crown if you are limited on time.

However, the key to getting defined and moisturized curls or coils is to take your time, and condition your hair section by section.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you split your hair into sections, each strand is getting the TLC that it deserves, AND your wash and go will last you longer than if you rush through the process.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, pour a beverage of your choice, put on your favorite playlist, and love on your crown. The results will be worth it.

Fall Favorites:

- It has been a staple for new guests since it landed in my hands earlier this year! It's lightweight and very effective! It works to pe*****te deeper into the cuticle to restore elasticity from color services, heat styling, and more! It also helps to rebuild the loss of hydration due to product build-up or misuse of stylers!
us Hairspray - Because transitioning into cooler months may mean we're extending our wash days. This hairspray doesn't leave a crunchy brittle feeling and can help smooth our flyaways to get an extra 1 or 2 days out of our initial wash day.

I Create Lift - Here at Beyond Texture we love Texture! This is a great product for silkier strands or finer here to enhance the volume that the humidity may have been giving you. Some textures when the humidity drops, so does our volume and this product comes to the rescue.

Innersense I Create Volume - For the textures that still need a little help with their definition and want the hold, try this product. It's a medium hold gel that's thin and leaves behind its luster. Don't be turned off by the name, it's multifunctional depending on your texture!

Undo Goo Malibu C Wellness - This is a staple! If you're a traveler, or a swimmer, or a product ju**ie - you need Undo Goo. Use it as needed and follow with your traditional cleanser to help eliminate build up.

Heal(thy) Curls.

When I made the choice to go to beauty school I had one goal in mind: to one day have a day of appointments solely filled with curly girls.

Women and men who want to understand how to care for their hair, rather than make excuses for it. It means empowering you to take up space and gain confidence in your uniqueness. It’s beautiful and divine, and It’s my mission.

If I could go back to my beauty school self I would nudge her and say:

Sharing this because it got lost in the archives and wavies in the curly world kind of get overlooked.

Wavies are all about the angles in the cut to create softness and separation while still retaining width. Styling goals, I focus on the clumps - the waves as the set dries open up and if you don’t have juicy clumps when wet, you end up with stringy curls.

If you’re a wavy texture, know that I see you! You belong here too. Celebrate your natural texture and embrace that body.

Did you know that it is actually recommended (occasionally) to cleanse your hair twice.

Meaning shampoo, rinse, shampoo again, rinse, and then proceed with your conditioner.

Because well, science 🧪. It has to do with the molecules inside the cleanser that are both hydrophilic and hydrophobic.

Essentially, there aren’t enough molecules in your first cleanse to effectively attach to the dirt and grease to wipe it all away with the first wash. The second cleanser will create a lighter, foamier lather which will be more effective in getting all of the dirt, grease, and product buildup rinsed away from the hair. You can see the difference of the first two pictures that I posted here.

When it comes to your texture journey, I wouldn’t recommend doing this too frequently, as it may throw off the natural hydration of your hair.

Now another thing, use your cleanser as a time to start your detangling process! Yes, I said it.

We must understand that when we’re detangling our hair, we are also hydrating our hair. When water is being thoroughly flushed through your texture, the more hydration our hair is receiving.

So the next wash day, give it two cleanses as a gentle deep cleanse.

I’m back in full force over here with a silky wavy curly transformation.

This texture can be the trickiest for me because a haircut can immediately change the interpretation of the curl pattern (hello curl shock factor 💥) and there can be multiple textures in one (straight, wavy, and curly).

I love a challenge though and Talia is sure to rock her style through the summer months ahead.

Have you experienced how much your curls can change after a haircut? Personally, it takes my curls 1-2 weeks to adjust to a haircut!! 🤯🤯

Today in the beyond Texture academy virtual mentor ship we had the pleasure of introducing Gray to his curls!

Of course, we learned the importance of water and how that is our main styling product no matter what line we are using. We were able to modify his shape to allow for a better grow in, and remove product build-up from butter and oil based products so he can see his curls grow!

We incorporated (dare I say it) TENSION to shape his fine springy curls and learned how we reduce our elevation in our BTC practices to account for the high spring factor.

Some of my favorites were used, , , and to great this hydrated voluminous finish!
