. This is California. It’s a very nice state and everyone is so pleasant and the air is dry and the sun is out. We could all stand to be more pleasant and kind and less suspicious of our neighbors. After all. We aren’t that different from each other.

Happy birthday to the wonderful Nomi Rachel Horwitz. Today you are 3! I remember doing everything we could during COVID to get to Jerusalem to witness your arrival! Every day since I have cherished you in life. Being a Zayde is something I wake up feeling so comfortable and blessed and grateful. Can’t wait to celebrate with you. I think being a parent is like the greatest gift opportunity for self growth and challenging everything and letting love being the ruler. These beautiful jewish women have dedicated their hearts to the upbringing of kind good souls. In these challenging times - what could matter more than a moms love and loyalty

So I tell you to dream and you laugh. You think you know how the universe works with your science and your math and your logic. I say divine imagination allows anything to be possible. Your cats and your cradles don’t apply. Choose love. That’s the alchemy.

There are so many roles in life we get to play. Some are EZE. Some don’t fit. And some come and go. But being a ZAYDE (Jewish for grandpa) is so warm and fitting for me. I get to be silly and playful and generous with my time and me and Yosef have a nice vibe.

Hello Saturday people.. you know who you are. You wake up kind of exhausted and your head is like on pause and you wonder if this is what life is as you go careening towards regret. I was you. Working soo hard doing something I had absolutely no honest interest in. Well today is the day to think about what thing you find very fun something from childhood something silly something you don’t normally tell people you like to do. And do it. A hobbies or whim is the little spark that lights the fire. And it is Aries season so it’s spark time. Will your try?

Well well. Happy birthday to Elizabeth Sarah horwitz. My first child, my brave soul. I met you when I was just 22 years old and from the day you entered my life you walked the path with me, I had in my mind what family means what it truly means and you get it. I am hoping this year opens even more pathways that were closed and new vistas unseen. There is no wall that your ram horns can’t knock down with your will and your heart of gold. The best aunt and daughter and sister and warrior I know. From strength to strength. Love dad

People look around for someone to save them. For someone to fix them, for leaders they can trust. We are all humans. Fallible weak and mortal. I was inspired at 15 by the Whitney song the greatest love of all. I never want to walk in anyone’s shadow. What lights up the darkness? The candle. Ah that’s just the way it is.

When I was 16 years old. 1983. The world was already a very scary place to me. Raised in an orthodox Jewish family, hearing about a gay cancer in San Francisco knowing the president of the united states wanted people like me to die. I found solace in my school work, my books, my girlfriend and late night soap operas like Dynasty. Growing up in Denver Colorado, I thought every day about escaping to someplace wonderful like LA or New York and being able to live freely without judgement. It doesn’t get better, you make it better.
