The summer went by very quickly, but it was well worth it. Cathy Young asked me to do this project along with Mila Thigpen, Tommy Neblett and Boston Conservatory and it was the perfect time as I was missing the commercial industry. I am grateful to Bates Dance Festival for building these longtime relationships in this industry. Although the Crypto Center is a major venue and a large project to get on its feet, mentoring is always the focus. I am extremely proud of these young dancers that brought an A-level of professionalism to the stage. For the many young dancers that ask if they should choose one. Doing concert dance and commercial dance is possible and I am proud to continue to navigate through both performing worlds.

Never met him, never danced for him, never saw him walk down a hallway or through a studio window. Somehow last week I had ten meals, a beach trip, and car trips with jokes full of life, art, and politics in the company of Donald Byrd. Everything happens for a reason. I think someone up above knew I needed to talk to him. And his last words to me were
“Only the good artists are brave.”
Thank you Donald Byrd… till our next road trip.
