Jhatak Matak is an accessories line started by Manaswi Jhala Kushwaha. Manaswi strives to marry a global aesthetic with love for her royal Rajput heritage and Indian craftsmanship. Her designs are inspired by the regal women from her childhood spent in Jaipur, India. The play of colors and the luxe feel of the collection reflect her memories of women draped in diaphanous pastel chiffons and bright
silk saris, decked in jewels with bloody marys in hand at polo matches contrasting against the desert sands. Manaswi decided to follow her creative heart after an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, Ann Arbor and 10 years in Investment Banking. She was a Vice President when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. As she shuttled back and forth between New York and Mumbai, taking care of her mother and thinking of her own life and dreams, she decided to finally follow her passion. It was time to turn a lifetime of sketches and inspiration boards into reality. After spending months in India searching for the right ‘karigars’ (craftsmen) for her products Manaswi launched her line of bangles, earrings, necklaces and evening clutches in September 2010. The bangles are ‘never before seen’ creations crafted out of belgian crystal glass, cats eye glass and austrian swarovski crystal. Manaswi playfully combines blue and green, grey and pink, champagne and black to create sets that can be worn in many different ways. The bangle sets are named for the royal estates she grew up around in Rajasthan. The evening clutches add that perfect pop of color to your evenings. She mixes luxurious raw silk, brocades, chiffons, georgettes and velvet with beads, swarovski crystals and wood to create bags that are selling out in New York and New Delhi. The bags are named for the inspiring women in her life- her many girl friends, cousins and aunts. The idea behind Jhatak Matak- have fun mixing and matching colors and styles! Manaswi’s hope is to make her beautiful accessories accessible to all women who love color and a bit of zing.
