“In the often captivating mix of idiosyncrasy and elegance of this intriguing set, the American trombonist, composer and educator Ed Neumeister seems to be implying, at 69, that he still dreams of a life outside of the admiring trap of 'musicians' musician' . . . Jazz from a rather specialised side-alley perhaps, but it's strikingly personal, and unexpectedly edgy at times.”– John Fordham, JazzWise Magazine 🎧 "Okay For Now" - Ed Neumeister #jazztromboneplayer #jazz #improvisation #composer #arranger #covers #newmusicalert

My new record is officially available on all streaming platforms and BandCamp for my label MeisteroMusic! Covers by Ed Neumeister Some more info on the release: On Covers, Neumeister has his way with familiar tunes that resonated from his youth — five by the Beatles, two by Led Zeppelin, one made famous by Otis Redding and another just hatched only a few years ago by Taylor Swift. Joined by his regular quartet of pianist Gary Versace, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Tom Rainey (who all appeared on 2021’s What Have I Done? and 2023’s Explorations), Neumeister put his stamp on these beloved tunes from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, and he encourages the others, particularly Versace, to bring their own personal expression to the proceedings. “Gary and I talk about what he should play on these tunes, but I trust him implicitly,” said the leader. “He always plays exactly what’s needed without overplaying. He’s been in my quartet for years now so we have a great connection. We seem to know what each other will play before playing it.” 🎧 Bandcamp Exclusive: https://edneumeister.bandcamp.com/album/covers 🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/3wpiGZUmlQWVSsppMXhdng?si=O13bXyCzQGeWHv3X1OiWfA 🎧 Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/covers/1755283581 #jazz #composer #covers #newmusic #newalbum #bandcampfriday #trombone #jazztromboneplayer

We should all spend more time Improvising! Some of my thoughts on how to use improvisation to develop our compositional voice.

Recording our practicing is the most effective method to simulate a performance. By recording and reviewing ourselves later, we allow ourselves to be more focused and inside the music. Enjoy this clip from my Creative Practice series!
