📚 For January’s , we're reading Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly.

Valencia, Kaori, Gen, and Chet aren't friends, but when a prank on Virgil and his pet guinea pig that Chet pulls goes horribly wrong, Valencia, Kaori, and Gen go on a quest to find Virgil, who is missing. Facing obstacles using their wits and some help from the universe, a friendship blooms during this rescue mission.

📚 This February’s , we're reading The Stars Beneath Our Feet by David Barclay Moore.

The holiday season is upon Lolly and his mother, but it's tough celebrating when the gang-related death of his older brother is still a fresh wound. But a gift of instructionless Legos helps Lolly find his own path forward. Through building his own Lego city, Lolly is able to find an escape from the pressures to follow in his brother's shoes and go off on a different path making his own footsteps as he progresses.

📚 For March’s , we're reading The Other half of Happy by Rebecca Balcarcel.

This is a heartfelt story about a girl named Quijana, who always seems to find herself in two parts; one-half Guatemalan, one-half American; one-part friend, one-part crush; one-part teen, one part grown-up. Quijana tackles all these parts of herself, learning which are to be treasured and which fit together to make her whole.

📚 This April’s , we're reading The Science of Breakable Things by Tae Keller.

At the suggestion of her science teacher, Natalie enters a competition that she views as an opportunity to solve her problems. Mainly the prize money can help her with her mother's depression by taking the potential prize money to see the fantastic Cobalt Blue Orchids in the hopes that they will inspire her mom to enjoy life again. So, with the help of her friends, Natalie embarks on a journey that helps her see the power of hope and love and that mom is people, too.

📚 This May’s , we're reading When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller.

This uplifting story takes the reader on an adventure with the protagonist, Lily, as she tries to unravel her family's secret history when a magical tiger from her Korean folktale approaches her with a deal to save her sick grandmother. But she soon learns that dealing with tigers can be deceiving, and with her sister's help, Lily finds her voice and courage needed to confront the tiger.

📚 For June’s , we're reading Zenobia July by Lisa Bunker.

This novel tells the story of a girl starting a new life. But starting anew still doesn't prevent someone from posting anonymous, hateful memes about her on the school website. So while adjusting to her new life in a new school, home and living openly as the girl she always knew she was, Zenobia sets out to solve the mystery of the anonymous bully.

A flashing green light catches the attention of two travelers, James and Michelle, at the Atlanta airport. The flashing green light turns out to be a button, which the eager traveler Michelle pushes. This story focuses on the trials and tribulations of three Black Muslim girls after a terrorist attack and the anti-Islamic awakening judgments of others in the aftermath. The three girls band together through a blog and work to fight hate and advocate for their truth, but they are faced with a tough decision when one member is threatened- do they continue to fight the good fight or shut things down for the safety of their friend?

2️⃣ Next, allow students to play the Read to Lead game, Staffing Plan where they’ll get to act as editor-in-chief of a digital magazine . They’ll learn about job qualifications and staff development as they experience this process first-hand!
