We are excited to support Alexandra Cicala in her research on financial literacy as she approaches her sophomore year at St. John's University.
She is putting the finishing touches on an app called Financially Lit, designed to help college students with financial tips. During one of our Financial Literacy seminars, Alexandra saw firsthand how a financial institution introduces essential concepts about managing daily finances to students in the local community.
Our president & CEO Thomas Rudzewick is optimistic about this new app:
“Alexandra’s app has incredible potential to help students gain financial empowerment. We were proud to be asked to participate in the project. Alexandra shows incredible drive, expertise, and entrepreneurship that is rarely seen at such a young age.”

Entrepreneurs Use Venture & Innovation Center Resources to Create New Tech Projects Two new technology projects supported by St. John’s University’s Venture & Innovation Center (VIC) and assisted by students and recent graduates could soon be accessible to members of the University community.

Yesterday, we hosted our third summer concert of the season featuring Barbra & Frank: The Concert That Never Was, a tribute to the legendary voices of Sinatra and Streisand.
Despite the rain at the last minute, we had a great time and everyone was singing along until the end. Our summer concerts are a special way for us to show our gratitude to the local community for their support. Thank you for joining us!

Today, we had a Financial Literacy seminar for our interns at Maspeth Federal Savings. We believe that understanding daily finances is important to change the perception that it is a difficult subject to understand and show students how it can affect their future.

Our collaboration with the Queens Chamber of Commerce has taken a step forward!
We sponsored the opening of the sixth location of the Queens Tech Council's tech incubator program by providing office space in Forest Hills to startups in the program.
As a community bank, we believe that this tech incubator program will support promising startups and bring innovation to our local communities in Queens.

Last week, we hosted our first-time homebuyer workshop at our main branch in Maspeth.
We had a panel of experts ranging from legal professionals and home inspectors to mortgage specialists and credit managers.
They talked about rates, taxes, insurance and much more information about homebuying.

Today is a special day at our workplace as we proudly wear purple to show our support for the battle against cancer. For the past twenty years, we have been strong advocates for Relay for Life – a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.
We are delighted that our corporate sponsorship donation has been made, bringing us to the #1 spot as the leading team in fundraising for Relay for Life of Middle Village.

Our 2024 internship summer program has officially started!
This month we are welcoming 31 students from 24 different schools and universities. The interns will have a 10-week journey in specific departments as well as engaging in activities and projects with their groups.

The 2024 Maspeth Memorial Day Parade was all about "Maspeth Celebrates Red, White and Blue." We came together as a community to pay tribute to the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. Thank you to everyone who participated, showed their support, and contributed to making this parade a truly unforgettable experience!maspeth

We received a gift from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation during their annual golf outing. This thoughtful gesture was a result of our contribution towards the mortgage of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller's family. Officer Diller tragically lost his life while on duty in Queens. We are proud to be part of such a compassionate initiative that honors the sacrifices made by heroes like Officer Diller.
Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Yesterday, we attended the mural unveiling for our recent commission for St. Mary's Children's Hospital.

The mural was created and painted by Sandy Caricaolo, a volunteer artist at Splashes of Hope, a non profit organization that paints custom murals in healthcare facilities to enhance the environment for patients and their families.

The mural is the most recent collaboration between MFS and Splashes of Hope, following previous works such as a veterans-themed mural at the Forest Hills American Legion Post #1424, as well as murals at Flushing Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital and Jamaica Hospital.

We have many initiatives throughout the year to make a positive impact in our community and on our planet.
We are installing solar panels at our Loan Center location and have electric vehicle charging stations at our branches in Forest Hills and the Main Office.
Additionally, we recently hosted our bi-annual Recycle Day which included paper shredding, electronic recycling, vin-etching, pet adoptions by Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) and distribution of catalytic converter kits by NYPD.

April is Financial Literacy Month, and what better way to celebrate than by highlighting our involvement in local colleges and schools?
While rent, tuition, cost of living, and economic disparity continues to rise in New York, our children are bombarded with targeted ads and glamorous social media influencers promoting unrealistic financial expectations. As a community bank, Maspeth Federal Savings is proactively bringing seminars to our local institutions.
Over the past three years, we have conducted free financial literacy seminars for hundreds of students at more than a dozen high schools and colleges across Queens and Long Island, NY. These interactive sessions cover personal finance, budgeting, and credit - essential skills that enhance quality of life and reduce economic disparity - and are customized for the students.
Having these presentations in person has not only helped students better understand the basics, but they have also been able to have a direct line of communication with us, learning about opportunities such as our Summer Internship Program and the potential to become a full-time employee.

The Metro Village of Forest Hills, an alliance of business owners along Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills, met in person for the first time since its establishment in 2021. Our Forest Hills Branch Manager, Shivon James was honored by the Glendale Kiwanis for her intervention in a roofing scam that was happening to one of our customers.
