Today is International Nonbinary People's Day and the very last day of Nonbinary Awareness Week! We still have plenty of work to do to make sure nonbinary people are treated equally in the United States — but we have been able to ensure certain protections for nonbinary people in schools. Here are a few things you should know!
Family Equality vehemently condemns the recent House resolution to reverse the Biden Administration’s Title IX protections for LGBTQI+ students and families. Though it is unlikely that this resolution will be affirmed in the Senate, this vote is a direct attack on the dignity and rights of LGBTQ+ students across the nation. To oppose these rules is to oppose the very notion that all families have the right to be free from bullying, discrimination, and harassment.

It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that we share the departure of our President & CEO, Jaymes Black. Jaymes is taking on a new role with one of our valued movement partners, The Trevor Project. This decision was not made lightly and has been a challenging one for Jaymes, who has shown unwavering dedication and passion for our mission throughout their tenure. Longtime Board Co-Chair, Alexis Kantor, will step in as Interim President & CEO while a search for our new President & CEO begins.

Today, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) announced the reintroduction of the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act — a bill that seeks to end discrimination against LGBTQ+, Two Spirit (LGBTQ+2S) and religious minority children and families in child welfare.
By prohibiting discrimination, this bill takes a vital step towards ensuring our child welfare system meets the needs of all youth in care and ensures that any qualified individual can open their home and form their family through foster care without facing undue discrimination.

President Biden’s move to pardon LGBTQ service members who were wrongly convicted under the discriminatory ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ is an incredible act of solidarity and justice on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community. It is an important reminder that LGBTQ+ history has always been interwoven with the fabric of our nation.
Everyone deserves to love openly and exist freely as their most authentic selves. Thank you President Biden for making this historic decision in the movement toward justice.
Statement from President Joe Biden on the Pardon of LGBTQI+ Service Members Wrongly Convicted | The White House Today, I am righting an historic wrong by using my clemency authority to pardon many former service members who were convicted simply for being themselves. Our Nation’s service members stand on the frontlines of freedom, and risk their lives in order to defend our country. Despite their courage an...
