Op-Ed: Gucci Fall 2023- A House in Transition
The mighty house of is currently a house in transition. It’s a hard act to follow the most recent dynasty, that of Alessandro Michele. The latter followed the relatively quiet 9+ year reign of designer Frida Giannini, who stayed well out of the spotlight as opposed to her predecessor Tom Ford. Ford was widely credited for shaking the dust off Gucci & making it one of the world’s leading brands in the mid nineties until he exited in 2004, & making himself the center of the spotlight more often than not...

INHERENT by Taylor Draper - Fall 2023
INHERENT (www.thisisinherent.com) Founder, Designer & CEO, Taylor Draper, debuted his full collection of custom-made tailored sportswear at this latest NYFW. By “tailored” we mean a pleasing mix of well-cut men’s suits in preppy tweeds & even a double-breasted black watch plaid three-piece suit. 70s tailoring such as the double vent on the back of the jackets & the matching vest professional men wore back then prevailed. Draper also used a lot of brown, one of the suit colors of choice in the 70s.

Faceted: Kevan Hall - Fall 2023
Kevan Hall named his latest collection, “Faceted”, as in the facets of a fine diamond. The theme extended throughout the collection of 40 looks, starting with the theme song, “Diamonds Are Forever”, sung by Dame Shirley Bassey, scored by John Barry for the Bond film released in 1971. Fittingly, actual diamonds on loan from Jeffrey Daniels Unique Designs for Gem Platinum figured prominently throughout the show. Pre-show, backstage, the models delightedly draped around their necks, wrists & earlobes as they prepared for their first exit.

Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2023
Seeing the Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2023 runway collection was like sitting in a time capsule & being transported back in time. Back in time some 40 years to the mid-1980s when proportions were grand, details were oversized, volume was large, & hair was even larger. It’s been a long time since a collection inspired by the much ballyhooed, & oft maligned, decade simply known by most as “the 80s”, was properly celebrated in a manner that made it look as good today as it did in the moment. Alexandre Vauthier did just that for his Fall 2023 collection that walked the runways of Paris this past week.

Heroic Fashion: In Earnest by Byron Earnest Lars
Byron Lars (www.inearnestofficial.com) is one of those rarities in the fashion world – a designer who has gathered an impressive army of fans & supporters but knows how to keep them asking for more. As to the “more” he’s been consistently delivering satisfying collections dating as far back as 1991, when he began designing under his own label. That same year, WWD anointed him “Rookie of the Year.” Lars has proven his design prowess over the years, skillfully adapting elements from men’s shirts, reshaping the bust, and deconstructing the shirt to include a built-in bra for shaping resulting in an undeniably feminine look.

Dennis Basso Celebrates 40 Years
For New York socialites of a “certain age”, Dennis Basso is THE MAN, & has been for the past 40 years. He has counted anyone who is anyone in society as a close personal friend from countless First Ladies to virtually the entire list of the proverbial “ladies who lunch”, aka: the New York social set (Nancy Reagan, Joan Rivers, Katie Couric & Elizabeth Taylor to name just a few). For this show, notables included the Graff diamond heir Lady Betty & her husband José, a Real Housewife or two, Fern Mallis , & the entire cast of every charity function that graces the social pages of the Times during Gala season.

One to Watch... Nayon: Fall 2023
Designer, Nayon Kim, (IG: ) told The Fashion List, in an interview at her presentation venue, “For this collection, called ‘Brut Generation‘, I drew inspiration by how young people this day view themselves.” When we asked why everything on display at her presentation was gray, she responded, “There is darkness, but from there comes light…To survive in this world we are living in, we shall embrace the light seeping into the darkness”, hence the gray color theme, which was used virtually throughout the entire collection, a theme seen on several other collections during this week.

INline: Rinat Brodach Fall 2023
There are certain moments during NYFW that resonate for one reason or another at a frequency that is somewhat off the bandwidth of the norm just enough to be remembered. Remembered not only for the fashion being shown, but for the vibe, the scene… the exponential quotient of cool that leaves those lucky enough to be invited & attend feeling like they are at the nexus of something special. Such was the case when I made my way downtown on a raw, damp evening one night before NYFW was set to “officially” begin. Rinat Brodach

We're Obsessed: Fall Scented Candles
As Fall descends, our yearnings turn to cozy afternoons under a blanket with a book or a remote for the latest binge-a-thon on Netflix (my current guilty streak is “The Ranch”)… but unless you’ve got the perfect room scent in play, the scene just isn’t complete. IN THE NEWS: Daily Star
"It was really humbling to see the caliber of woman I was up against and the amazing work they are doing for their communities."
Marisa also works as a financial adviser and even on environmental issues.
So she says it does annoy her if people assume pageant girls aren't intelligent.
"If people still think that girls in pageants aren't intelligent then they haven't been paying attention," she said.
