The July 4 Red, White, and Blue is in the books!

This year the charity tournament raised donations for the April Logan Fund with the Newport News Police Foundation. We were honored to have Dr. Cheryl Chavers from the NNPD Domestic Violence Unit and Megan Stewart, Executive Director of the Foundation to talk about the important mission this serves and the legacy of April. John Roy and Tina shared their personal experience and it was a touching reminder of the importance to look out for one another and the value of life. The monies raised will look out for those who seek help escaping the experiences of domestic violence.

After two rounds, the first being candy cane with the new baskets, and the second a deuce or die from the blue tees, with hundreds of raffle tickets for cool prizes, and significant donations from players and angel donors, we raised:

$1838!

That is an incredible amount and will go to a great cause. There are many people to thank: Tim, Cathi, Tommy, Kat, Nic, Aaron, Jon, John Roy, Talina, Alicia, and so many others. Running a tournament, even unsanctioned, takes so much work, and it takes a village. I have learned much becoming a Tournament Director and still have so much more to learn. Volunteers, in any capacity, are always needed to ensure a successful event. Any omission is not intentional; the disc golf community has so many great people that the list runs long no matter how you try to keep track!

I hope those that threw any of the rounds had a blast! Look forward to doing it again next year!

Hello Colonial DGC!

With No Quarter at New Quarter in the books, we look to one of our benefit events, the July 4 Red/White/Blue event! This year the benefactor is the NNPD Foundation's April Logan Domestic Violence fund. More information is attached. Last year we raised several hundred to go to American Legions across the area. This event will be at Newport News Park and is not a sanctioned event.

I am working on getting a few donations but am asking for anyone that may wish to donate a few items for raffle to reach out to me. 100% of raffle monies will go to the benefit.

For the format, it will be similar to what we did last year. It will be run like a weekly for the first round. That layout will be candy cane, with hole 1 starting out red tees, hole 2 white, hole 3 red, etc. Registration opens at 8am, tee time will be 9am with a players meeting at 850am. A representative from the NNPD Foundation will be present to discuss their mission. Once that round concludes, we will have payouts as we do for the weekly. There will be a separate CTP competition set up before and after the first round. The cost for the candy cane round is $10. There will be a CTP prize (non-monetary) for one hole and an ace pot based on the number of participants.

Once those scores are tallied we will run the raffle of any items donated and finish the CTP competition.

At the conclusion of that, a second mini-round will commence. This will be all "blue" tees which are junior tees. The format is duece or die. The tees will be marked with American flags at each hole, so you can see where each is during the first round. If you don't birdie, log your 3, pick up your disc, move on. The cost to play is $10: $4 to the benefit, $2 toward winning payouts, $4 ace pot to be split among all aces.

We will accept direct donations. I will personally match a quarter for every dollar donated up to $100 out of my own pocket for any independent donation to support this important mission.

More to come, but put it on your calender now and see you there! Feel free to share the post!

Todd

We were very fortunate to have temperatures in the 60's along with the sun being out for most of the day at the 2024 Colonial Ice Bowl. 126 players teamed up for two rounds of fun playing doubles at New Quarter Park in Williamsburg, Va. It's great being part of this tremendously supportive group of disc golfers! Their generosity helped us reach our goal of $5k and just over 500 lbs of food for the York County Food Closet.

Tropical storm Ophelia gave us time today to move the baskets at Newport News Park for Club Championship tomorrow. We installed new number plates on all of the baskets and put out whiskers marking circle one around the new tournament baskets. The best part was getting to play a round from the long tees with everyone that came out and helped. Thanks, John, Phillip, Andrew, Zach, Jeremy, Steve, and Cathi.
