Yay for interactive, fun field trips at school!
**Fritz fits what UH needs**
Willie Fritz was officially introduced as head football coach at University of Houston today. IMO, this is a phenomenal hire. The man is a proven winner & he has strong ties to this area. Excited to see how he helps get the Coogs on track in the Big 12 Conference.

**Texans beat Broncos**
Thanks to a thrilling goal line stand in the final minute, the Houston Texans beat the Denver Broncos 22-17. The Texans are now 7-and-5 and very much alive in the NFL playoff picture.
**College Football Playoff is set**
Here it is! Two of these four teams will be here in Houston to play for the College Football Playoff national title January 8th. The winner of Michigan Football vs. Alabama Football will play the winner of Washington Husky Football vs. Texas Football inside NRG Park’s NRG Stadium.
**Longhorns win Big 12 title**
For the first time in 14 years, Texas Football is the Big 12 Conference champion. Here are a few photos from the game/celebration. Our full report airs during ABC13 Houston Eyewitness News after the Atlantic Coast Conference title game.
FWIW: I believe Texas should be *IN* the College Football Playoff field by virtue of this victory + Alabama Football’s win over Georgia Football. We’ll find out Sunday morning!
**Football Friday**
Greetings from AT&T Stadium! We’re here to cover Saturday’s Big 12 Conference football title game between Texas Football & Oklahoma State Cowboy Football - a game you’ll see live on ABC13 Houston.
Not only is it the final Big 12 football game for the Texas Longhorns, but the result could impact Houston’s College Football Playoff National Title game. Hope you’ll catch our coverage!
**Share your Holidays recap**
It was another phenomenal in Galveston County, Texas! As part of ABC13 Houston’s Share your Holidays food drive, the site at Galveston Independent School District’s Ball High School helped collect more than $32,000 in monetary contributions & nearly 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food to help tackle food insecurity. THANK YOU!! Here’s a recap courtesy of ABC13 photojournalist Chris Carr.

I’m grateful Quinnie is willing to take pictures with me even when I’m wearing my reindeer hat…
**Tyke Tuesday**
This isn’t the greatest photo of Connor, but it’s REAL LIFE…& also pretty funny! He was not thrilled about being photographed with the “kids tree” so he made a “Grinch” face rather than smile like Quinnie. Ha!
**Dynamo two wins from title**
What a run for Houston Dynamo FC! By virtue of a victory vs. Sporting Kansas City, the Dynamo have advanced to the Western Conference Final of the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs.
The Dynamo play at Los Angeles Football Club Saturday for a spot in the MLS Cup December 9th.
**Texans streak snapped**
To cap a thrilling game, the Houston Texans miss a 58-yard field goal in the final minute to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21. The loss snaps a 3-game win streak for the Texans & temporarily knocks them out of the AFC playoff field.
**Dana Holgorsen fired by UH**
JUST IN: Dana Holgorsen is out as University of Houston head football coach. He’s been fired after 5 seasons - including a 4-and-8 campaign in 2023, the Coogs’ first in the Big 12 Conference.
**Big 12 title game is set**
It’ll be a battle for the Red River - just not THAT battle. Saturday, Texas Football will face Oklahoma State Cowboy Football for the 2023 Big 12 Conference championship. You can watch the game LIVE on ABC13 Houston Saturday at 11 a.m.
**Football Friday**
Tonight on ABC13 Houston, you can watch Texas Tech Football vs. Texas Football. During the game, you’ll see Texas Tech University defensive lineman Tony Bradford, a Galena Park ISD product, in action. He’s already done work this week!
Bradford spend at least $2,000 of his own endorsement money to purchase & provide turkeys to the Lubbock community. Good work, Tony!
**Last swing at Olympic dream**
On this , I’m thankful I was able to share DeRae Crane’s story on ABC13. He’s a former U.S. Army Captain with an MBA from Rice University who is taking one last swing at his lifelong dream: being a member of Team USA. He will try to make USA Boxing history next month in Lafayette, LA.

A two-dimensional pic of Connor & me in 3D glasses. We saw the new Trolls movie in 3D…& it was great!
**Generation Texas Week**
What an honor it was to talk TV in schools last week!
I had the pleasure of presenting at multiple Conroe Independent School District campuses (including Connor’s!) as the schools hosted various events to help prepare students for different options after high school. Every time I visit with our next generation, I’m excited about the future!
**No such thing as an ugly win**
A sign of a good team is being able to win when you don’t play your best. Today, the Houston Texans do just that as they survive a three interception performance from CJ Stroud + a crucial missed field goal to beat the Arizona Cardinals 21-16. The Texans are now 6-and-4 on the season, squarely in the NFL playoff picture & will host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday for first place in the division.
**Grand Oaks HS wins state title**
Congrats to Conroe Independent School District’s Grand Oaks High School, Conroe ISD for winning the University Interscholastic League Class 6A state championship! The Grand Oaks Volleyball team finishes the season with a record of 50-and-1 (!!) and brings home the program’s first-ever state title...and the first team sports title in the history of the school (established 2018). Way to go!
**Football Friday**
The Houston Christian University football team has secured its first winning season since the school launched the program last decade. A key factor in the early success of first-year head coach Braxton Harris is one local player’s refusal to let his career end on anyone else’s terms. I hope you’ll enjoy this inspiring story on Xavier McIntyre.

**Astros announce Espada as new skipper**
It’s official: Joe Espada is the new manager of the Houston Astros. The 48 year-old has been the ‘Stros bench coach (No. 2 in charge) since 2018. I can tell y’all Espada is incredible well-liked, if not BELOVED, by his players. He’s also revered by staff members in/around the club. This hire made too much sense!
**Stroud, Texans magic continues**
For the second straight week, rookie QB CJ Stroud engineers a game-winning drive in the final seconds to propel his Houston Texans to a 30-27 win at the Cincinnati Bengals. The Texans are very much in the playoff race with a 5-4 record … and those 5 wins are their most in any full season since 2019. And it’s only week 10.
**Dynamo advance in playoffs**
Houston pro sports right now are on fire!
The Houston Dynamo FC will host the Western Conference semifinals of the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs after eliminating Real Salt Lake in penalty kicks.
**Football Friday**
In prime time on ABC13 Houston Saturday, the 7th ranked Texas Football team plays at TCU Football. During a 1-on-1 chat with Texas Longhorns linebacker David Gbenda, a Katy ISD product, we learned he has desires to enter broadcasting. So…we asked him to put on his TV hat and hype up/breakdown Saturday’s Texas/TCU tilt.
**Son of Master P signs with UH**
Today, the Houston Cougar Men's Hoops team signed Mercy Miller to a scholarship. He’s the son of self made music mogul Master P!
More than two years ago, when Mercy first announced his comment to the Coogs, I chatted with Master P about his son’s college plans.

It’s never to early to learn about the importance of making your voice heard! 🇺🇸 🗳️
**CJ Stroud’s “it” factor**
As we posted about yesterday following his NFL record-setting performance, Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud is doing things few, if any, rookie QBs have done. His comfort & confidence are wildly impressive.
Admittedly, I’m no NFL Draft analyst. But on the day we met CJ, his comfort & confidence was so apparent…we featured it in our ABC13 Houston reporting from the NFL Draft in Kansas City.
**Texans win thriller vs. Bucs**
Rookie QB C.J. Stroud breaks the NFL rookie record for passing yards in a game (470 yards!) as he leads his Houston Texans to a thrilling, comeback win in the final seconds. Stroud throws 5 touchdowns in the 39-37 victory. They’re now 4-and-4 on the season.
**Lone Star State squeakers**
How’s your heart, college football fans??
Saturday’s games involving Houston Cougar Football, Baylor Football, Texas Football, Texas A&M Football & Sam Houston Football are ALL DECIDED ON THE FINAL PLAY. Two of those games went to overtime!
**Football Friday**
So many of us can appreciate a family football story, right?
Friday, when Tidehaven High School hosts Van Vleck ISD, it will be a matchup of father vs. son. Van Vleck defensive assistant Wade Birchum will coach against his son, Tidehaven defensive assistant Ryan Birchum. But as you’ll see in our piece, there’s another layer to this father/son cross-county rivalry game.

**Rockets new city edition unis**
Y’all, the Houston Rockets NAILED these! 👩🏻🚀🏀🪐
These new NBA Nike City Edition uniforms are beautiful. I especially love the SLAMMING SPACE MAN!
The team says these uniforms are a part of the overarching “Hometown Heroes” storyline which was developed to celebrate NBA teams’ unique connection to their respective cities. The Rockets will amplify Hometown Heroes through Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon, Clyde “The Glide” Drexler, and how their explosive, high-flying on-court performances carved out a place in basketball culture for the City of Houston.
They’ll wear these 13 times this season. Here’s hoping they play as good as they look!
