The way people view you.
Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives and a Godsend in others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself.

Some people survive and talk about it. Some people survive and go silent. Some people survive and create. Everyone deals with unimaginable pain in their own way, and everyone is entitled to that, without judgement.
So the next time you look at someone’s life covetously, remember… You may not want to endure what they are enduring right now, at this moment, whilst they sit so quietly before you, looking like a calm ocean on a sunny day.

This is reality for many
Imagine for a moment:
There is a mom, with 2 kids, who has a “great” job making $20 per hour and works 40 hours a week. Roughly $3000 per month after taxes…sounds good until you put it on paper. I remember, not so long ago, when $20 an hour was only a distant dream. Anyways, her marriage fell apart, and he doesn’t claim all of his income, so she only gets $400 a month in child support. She can’t take him back to court, because she can’t afford to, and he knows it. To make matters worse, she makes a tad to much to get any public assistance, which she’s ok with…but man would it help right now 🥺
So here she is…sitting at her table, alone, going over her “must pay” bills and the things she needs that aren’t in the budget. On top of that, the brakes went out this morning on her car, that she has to have for work and the kids! Fixing it is not an option, but she doesn’t have $500 to fix it! In fact, she was just trying to figure out how to work around some bills to get the kids much needed winter coats. And then her 4th grader brings home a form from school requesting $10 for the upcoming field trip to the pumpkin patch and Christmas is only 2 months away! She remembers what it’s like to wake up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree, and worse, how she felt when all her friends talked about their new toys and she just walked away as if she didn’t matter. She vowed that her kids would never feel this way…but here she is…to say she’s overwhelmed or stressed is an understatement. 🥺
Sound familiar?

Thinking of every Mother who is incarcerated on today and the children no matter their age affected by their absence. We have to do better as a system, as organizations, as advocates, as Mothers.
Prisons and jails will separate millions of mothers from their children in 2022 58% of all women in U.S. prisons are mothers, and other important facts to know this Mother’s Day.
These are real statistics. You should probably speak to your teen and open the conversation in a way that shows they can trust you with the truth. Dont know how to do that? Ask, we can help you.

I see you.
I see you behind the busy. Behind the keeping it all together. Behind the “I’m fine” and smiles.
I see you.
I see your strong, your giving, your caring.
I see your showing up even without the answers.
I see your tired, your sleepless nights, your worry.
I see you work through the worry and cling to possibility.
I see you.
I see your love, your hope, your belief in the good.
I see your caring and hours spent trying that no one sees.
I see you deal with guilt because you want to be the best you can be.
I see you.
I see that sometimes you need to be told how much you matter, that your giving makes a difference, that you are enough.
I see you.
I see how hard you try.
I see how you let go of comparison and try to be real.
I see you stumble and yet stand up again.
I see your brave.
I see your courage.
I see your heart.
I see you because you are like me.
We give, we love, we are brave.
Thank you.
You are enough.
I see you.

We should be teaching more about familial effects of drugs and alcohol. Generational addictions are so real. Question is do we share generational addiction education with our children. Do we educate them on how their bodies will react to the drug or alcohol??? We should!!

There once was a young boy with a very bad temper. The boy’s father wanted to teach him a lesson, so he gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper he must hammer a nail into their wooden fence.
On the first day of this lesson, the little boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. He was really mad!
Over the course of the next few weeks, the little boy began to control his temper, so the number of nails that were hammered into the fence dramatically decreased.
It wasn’t long before the little boy discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Then, the day finally came when the little boy didn’t lose his temper even once, and he became so proud of himself, he couldn’t wait to tell his father.
Pleased, his father suggested that he now pull out one nail for each day that he could hold his temper.
Several weeks went by and the day finally came when the young boy was able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
Very gently, the father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.
“You have done very well, my son,” he smiled, “but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same.”
The little boy listened carefully as his father continued to speak.
“When you say things in anger, they leave permanent scars just like these. And no matter how many times you say you’re sorry, the wounds will still be there”.
Repost- We should NOT ask our students why they are late first thing in the morning! 3rd graders can’t drive. 7th graders can’t help that their mom has to drop off their younger siblings at daycare & elementary school before dropping them off last. And 10th graders don’t want to tell you that they had to find a ride because they don’t have an adult in their house who can drive them to school & they missed the bus.
We tell these children we are HAPPY THEY ARE AT SCHOOL.
We have become so disconnected from the children, teens, & young adults that we teach, that we assume they all live great & perfect lives.
Many of them are just trying to survive. BE NICE.
