Pentagon Adopts Carnivore Diet for Troops to Enhance Readiness and Reduce Healthcare Costs

Washington, D.C. – In a groundbreaking move, the Pentagon has announced the implementation of an all-meat carnivore diet for U.S. troops. This strategic decision aims to reduce healthcare costs, enhance mental health, facilitate weight loss, and combat chronic diseases among service members, thereby creating a more battle-ready force.

Cutting Healthcare Costs and Improving Health

The U.S. military spends billions annually on healthcare for active-duty personnel and veterans. According to the Military Health System (MHS), the Department of Defense (DoD) healthcare expenditure exceeded $50 billion in 2023. Common health issues such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases are prevalent among troops, contributing significantly to these costs.

A shift to a carnivore diet, which emphasizes meat and animal fat while eliminating carbohydrates and processed foods, promises to address these health challenges. Studies have shown that low-carb, high-fat diets can lead to substantial weight loss and improvements in metabolic health. The Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system estimates that even a 10% reduction in obesity rates could save up to $1 billion annually in healthcare costs.

The benefits of a meat-centric diet are not a new discovery. Genghis Khan, the legendary Mongol conqueror, attributed his empire's unparalleled endurance and military success to a diet rich in meat and animal fat. The Mongol warriors consumed large quantities of meat, primarily from horses and sheep, which provided them with sustained energy and physical resilience during their expansive campaigns.

Historical records suggest that this diet played a crucial role in the Mongol army's ability to cover vast distances quickly and engage in prolonged combat with minimal fatigue. By emulating this dietary strategy, the Pentagon aims to enhance the stamina and combat readiness of modern troops.

One of the physiological benefits of the carnivore diet is the induction of ketosis, a metabolic state in which the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. Ketosis has been shown to provide stable energy levels, improve mental clarity, and reduce the need for frequent meals—an advantage during extended combat missions where access to food can be limited.

Navy SEALs and other special operations forces have already experimented with ketogenic diets, reporting increased endurance and cognitive performance under stress. The transition to a carnivore diet is expected to extend these benefits to the broader military population.

The Pentagon's new policy also involves a significant overhaul of Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs). Traditional MREs, often criticized for their high carbohydrate content and low nutritional value, will be replaced with pemmican—a nutrient-dense food made from dried meat and fat. Pemmican has a rich history in North America, particularly during the Pemmican Wars between the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company in the early 19th century.

Pemmican was the staple food that fueled explorers and fur traders as they traversed vast distances across the U.S. and Canada. Its long shelf life, high energy density, and ease of transport make it an ideal food source for military personnel in the field.

Concerns from the Dietetic Community

Despite the anticipated benefits, not everyone is on board with the Pentagon's new dietary policy. Linda Harris RD, a prominent dietitian and spokesperson for major food companies like Kellogg's, Kraft, Mazola, and ILSI, has voiced her concerns.

"This all-meat diet is highly restrictive and lacks the essential nutrients found in a balanced diet that includes grains, fruits, and vegetables," said Dr. Harris. "Our troops need a variety of nutrients to maintain optimal health and performance, and relying solely on meat could lead to deficiencies and long-term health issues."

Breaking News: Dr. John Meatos Condemns U.S. Dietary Guidelines, Initiates Class Action Lawsuit

Washington, D.C. — Dr. John Meatos, a prominent member of the U.S. Dietary Guidelines Committee, has launched a scathing critique of the nation's dietary recommendations, claiming they have failed the American public and contributed to widespread illness and obesity. In an unprecedented move, Dr. Meatos has announced a class action lawsuit where individuals suffering from diabetes, morbid obesity, cancer, or heart disease can sue the U.S. government for $125,000 per condition.

Guideline Failures and Legal Action
According to Dr. Meatos, the current guidelines have disproportionately elevated omega-6 linoleic acid intake, leading to adverse health effects. “The high levels of omega-6 in our diet are making Americans sick,” he stated. Dr. Meatos is calling for drastic changes, asserting that the guidelines have misled the public for decades.

Reevaluating Nutritional Necessities
In a bold declaration, Dr. Meatos argued that dietary fiber is overrated and non-essential. Additionally, the Dietary Guidelines Committee has admitted that carbohydrates are unnecessary for health. Consequently, they are planning to revise the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR) to 0% for carbohydrates and increase fats to 80%.

Historical Missteps and Legal Repercussions
The committee has also revealed that the longstanding recommendations for fruit and vegetable consumption stemmed from marketing efforts dating back to the 1991 "Five a Day" campaign. Dr. Meatos announced that individuals responsible for these misleading campaigns are now facing legal consequences, with some heading to jail for their actions.

Constitutional Breach and Dietary Overhaul
This dramatic shift follows a critical email from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (), which highlighted that the dietary guidelines appeared to be influenced by Seventh-day Adventist vegan ideology, potentially violating constitutional law.

New Dietary Recommendations
In light of these revelations, the Dietary Guidelines Committee is now advocating for a carnivore diet centered around fatty beef to restore Americans' health. They have also decided to implement this diet within the military to enhance battle preparedness.

Policy Changes and Industry Impact
The U.S. government is set to eliminate all subsidies for seed oils, sugar, and corn. Furthermore, oils with an omega-6 content above 25% will be banned. A new metric, Omega Balance, will be introduced on all food product labels, and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) will be explicitly listed.

Regulatory Measures
To ensure compliance, new FDA agents will monitor foods for high 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) content, a harmful byproduct of omega-6 oxidation. Chefs and food manufacturers who produce foods with dangerous levels of 4-HNE could face manslaughter charges.

Public Reaction and Future Outlook
Dr. Meatos’ revelations have sparked a national debate on the future of nutrition and public health. As the legal proceedings unfold and new guidelines are implemented, Americans may witness a transformative shift in dietary practices and health outcomes.

Presidential Endorsement
In an unexpected turn of events, President Joe Biden expressed his support for the new dietary guidelines during a press conference. "The science behind this new approach is so powerful that I've decided to not only give up statins myself, but start a high fat beef only diet," President Biden announced. "I've noticed what they've done to my mental health, and I believe this new dietary shift to an all-meat diet will benefit not just our troops but all Americans. We simply cannot afford to keep pretending that our dietary guidelines are working for the American people."

President Biden's endorsement adds significant weight to the initiative, highlighting the potential for widespread health benefits and the importance of evidence-based dietary recommendations.

Seed oils linked to homicide (20 years ago)

Abstract
Clinical intervention trials and animal studies indicate that increasing dietary intakes of long chain n-3 FA or reducing linoleic acid intake may reduce aggressive and violent behaviors. Here we examine if economic measures of greater n-6 consumption across time and countries correlate with greater risk of homicide. Linoleic acid available for human consumption was calculated from World Health Organization disappearance data for 12 major seed oils in the food supply for the years 1961 to 2000 in Argentina, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States (US). Homicide mortality rates, adjusted for age, were obtained from the central judicial authority of each country. Apparent linoleic acid intake from seed oil sources ranged from 0.29 en% (percentage of daily food energy) (Australia 1962) to 8.3 en% (US 1990s). Greater apparent consumption of linoleic acid correlated with higher rates of homicide mortality over a 20-fold range (0.51-10.2/100,000) across countries and time in an exponential growth regression model (r = 0.94, F = 567, P < 0.00001). Within each country, correlations between greater linoleic acid disappearance and homicide mortality over time were significant in linear regression models. Randomized controlled trials are needed to determine if reducing high intakes of linoleic acid by seed oils with alternative compositions can reduce the risk of violent behaviors. These dietary interventions merit exploration as relatively cost-effective measures for reducing the pandemic of violence in Western societies, just as dietary interventions are reducing cardiovascular mortality. Low linoleate diets may prevent behavioral maladies that correctional institutions, social service programs, and mental health providers intend to treat.

Physiologic Adaptation to Macronutrient Change Distorts Findings from Short Dietary Trials: Reanalysis of a Metabolic Ward Study

Doctors DDavid Ludwigand NNicholas Norwitzpublished an important study recently that looked at an influential metabolic ward study and found that the animal-based low carb diet was so metabollically beneficial that it changed the results of the crossover low-fat diet.

An influential 2-wk cross-over feeding trial without a washout period purported to show advantages of a low-fat diet (LFD) compared with a low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) consumed for weight control. In contrast to several other macronutrient trials, the diet order effect was originally reported as not significant. In light of a new analysis by the original investigative group identifying an order effect, we aimed to examine, in a reanalysis of publicly available data (16 of 20 original participants; 7 female; mean BMI, 27.8 kg/m2), the validity of the original results and the claims that trial data oppose the carbohydrate–insulin model of obesity (CIM). We found that energy intake related with the LCD was much lower when this diet was consumed first compared with second (a difference of −1164 kcal/d, p = 3.6 × 10-13); the opposite pattern was observed for the LFD (924 kcal/d, P = 2 × 10-16). This carry-over effect was significant (P interaction = 0.0004) whereas the net dietary effect was not (P = 0.4). Likewise, the between-arm difference (LCD - LFD) was −320 kcal/d in the first period and +1771 kcal/d in the second. Body fat decreased with consumption of the LCD first and increased with consumption of this diet second (−0.69 ± 0.33 compared with 0.57 ± 0.32 kg, P = 0.007). LCD-first participants had higher β-hydroxybutyrate levels while consuming the LCD and lower respiratory quotients while consuming LFD when compared with LFD-first participants on their respective diets. Change in insulin secretion as assessed by C-peptide in the first diet period predicted higher energy intake and less fat loss in the second period. These findings, which tend to support rather than oppose the CIM, suggest that differential (unequal) carry-over effects and short duration, with no washout period, preclude causal inferences regarding chronic macronutrient effects from this trial.

Insulin Resistance and Hypertension: Mechanisms Involved and Modifying Factors for Effective Glucose Control -- Oxidative stress, damage to the tissues, and mitochondrial dysfunction resulting from excess linoleic acid -> Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, dementia, obesity, CVD and diabetes

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10452601/3.2. Omega-6 Fatty AcidsVegetable oils like canola, sunflower, corn, soy, and safflower oils are rich sources of omega-6 fatty acids, especially linoleic acid [56,57]. Since 1900, vegetable oils derived from seeds and flowers have been extensively used to replace saturated fats such as butter, tallow, and lard. The use of these oils gives processed food more stability. Linoleic acid, the primary omega-6 polyunsaturated fat found in vegetable oils like seed oils [57], increased by more than a factor of two as a result, and it currently accounts for 8% to 10% of the total energy consumed in the West [56]. Conjugated linoleic acid, which is present in pastured animal diets, should not be mistaken for the omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid. In addition, because linoleic acid has a half-life of approximately two years in adipose tissue, the content of linoleic acid in adipose tissue is a trustworthy indicator of ingestion [58]. Oxidative stress, damage to the tissues, and mitochondrial dysfunction resulting from excess linoleic acid are responsible for various cardiovascular diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, dementia, obesity, and diabetes [59]. Excessive consumption of linoleic acid in recent years has led to a reduction in the levels of omega-3 fatty acid intake, with an increasing ratio between omega 6 and omega 3 from 4:1 to 25:1 [60]. Significantly, as alpha-linolenic acid interacts with linoleic acid for conversion to longer-chain polyunsaturated fats, greater ingestion of omega-6 polyunsaturated fat linoleic acid can decrease omega-3 in the body [61]. Since it has long been known that individuals with CAD had lower levels of linoleic acid relative to total fatty acids in lipids, this finding has been used to support the theory that linoleic acid deficiency may be a risk factor for heart disease [62]. However, linoleic acid levels in both adipose tissue and platelets are favorably correlated with coronary artery disease (CAD), but long-chain omega-3 levels in platelets (eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)) are negatively correlated with CAD [63]. Linoleic acid produces mitochondrial toxicity and catastrophic cardiolipin modifications [64], which are predisposed to exaggerate oxidative stress and overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS consume natural antioxidants and also produce lipid peroxidation of the cell membrane and DNA damage. Oxidative stress predisposes to IR, obesity, T2DM, heart failure, and cancer. A schematic diagram (Figure 2) shows how linoleic acid may cause inflammation and oxidative stress conditions.https://preview.redd.it/gkvr4czu6d0c1.png?width=739&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f842dc2422739a314f2109ca4a1fafe0a742b35

Side effects of a broken food & drinks industry now many peer-reviewed research points to vegetable oil-heavy diets causing significantly worse health outcomesUC Riverside research shows soybean oil not only leads to obesity and diabetes, but could also affect neurological conditions like autism, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, and depression. Used for fast food frying, added to packaged foods, and fed to livestock, soybean oil is by far the most widely produced and consumed edible oil in the U.K. From all these sources, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) estimates we each eat, on average, 61kg of soya per year – that’s more than 1kg a week.https://news.ucr.edu/articles/2020/01/17/americas-most-widely-consumed-oil-causes-genetic-changes-brain

Just wondering if people could posts some bullet points of the best know mechanisms for exactly why and how linoleic acid causes obesity, be it through triggering increased appetite, lowering metabolism, or other reasons etc. Would love to read some good research on the topic (studies, not articles, please). Very curious about the topic of torpor as well. Wondering if this applies to humans in any way. I believe there is debate on that.
