So you scored a sick vintage leather garment but it needs a little TLC here’s the basics on what you need to do next.
1. Dust off any dirt and gunk light brush or cloth
2. Make sure you use a leather cleaner that is for the type of leather you have, suede, nubuck, or a light or dark leather
3. Circular motions are important for cleaning and conditioning- don’t use too much pressure or product
4. Conditioning replenishes natural oils and should be done periodically to avoid drying and cracking.
5. Address stains by getting to them quickly blot and never rub to avoid spreading the stains.
6. Routinely care for your leather, keep in a cool dry place, and invest in a dust cover.
I’ve found a few leather gems myself that needed some TLC, keeping garments in commission and out of dry rot is the goal there’s no coming back from that. RIP
Happy hunting & preserving!
