I started this journey at age 20. Once you start down that road, you don’t go back. To understand a Military Veteran you must know: We left home as teenagers or in our early twenties for an unknown adventure. We loved our country enough to defend it and protect it with our own lives. We said goodbye to friends and family and everything we knew. We learned the basics and then we scattered in the wind to the far corners of the Earth. We found new friends and new family. We became brothers and sisters regardless of color, race or creed. We had plenty of good times, and plenty of bad times. We didn’t get enough sleep. We probably drank too much. We picked up both good and bad habits. We worked hard and played harder. We didn’t earn a great wage. We experienced the happiness of mail call and the sadness of missing important events. We didn’t know when, or even if, we were ever going to see home again. We grew up fast, and yet somehow, we never grew up at all. We fought for our freedom, as well as the freedom of others. Some of us saw actual combat, and some of us didn’t. Some of us saw the world, and some of us didn’t. Some of us dealt with physical warfare, most of us dealt with psychological warfare. We have seen and experienced and dealt with things that we can’t fully describe or explain, as not all of our sacrifices were physical. We participated in time honored ceremonies and rituals with each other, strengthening our bonds and camaraderie. We counted on each other to get our job done and sometimes to survive it at all. We have dealt with victory and tragedy. We have celebrated and mourned. We lost a few along the way. When our adventure was over, some of us went back home, some of us started somewhere new and some of us never came home at all. We have told amazing and hilarious stories of our exploits and adventures. We share an unspoken bond with each other, that most people don’t experience, and few will understand.

🇺🇸 Thank you.

Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds as often as possible! 💦 #globalhandwashingday

🙋Will receiving the COVID-19 vaccine make me sick? ✔ No, it will not make you sick. None of the U.S. authorized COVID-19 vaccines contain the live virus that causes COVID-19 meaning that the vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19. Our immune systems are taught how to recognize and fight against the COVID-19 virus with the vaccines. Sometimes the vaccination process can cause symptoms, such as fever, but these are normal and are signs the body is building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. 💉Need help coordinating your vaccination(s)? It’s difficult to determine when it may be time to consider an Assisted Living community. In order to help you decide, here are a few signs to look for: 1️⃣ An Untidy Home 👉 in terms of piles of dirty laundry, overflowing trash, stacks of dirty dishes, etc. An unkempt home doesn’t mean your parent no longer cares about the cleanliness of their home, but rather, they can’t physically keep up with the hassle of daily chores. 2️⃣ Expired foods + a diet consisting primarily of convenience foods (frozen + fast food) 👉 When your parent used to enjoy cooking but now turns more to quick and convenient food instead could be because they’re having trouble using appliances and getting around their kitchen. 3️⃣ Decline in Personal Hygiene Habits 👉 Are your parents wearing clean clothes? Have they brushed their hair and teeth? If they’re no longer taking care of themselves, they might be struggling physically or even depression. This may also be an indication of dementia, talk with their doctor if possible. 4️⃣ Withdrawing from Social Activities 👉 have your parents recently stopped doing things they love? Stopped going to church groups or playing bridge with their friends? They may no longer feel comfortable driving or have fallen out of touch due to distance. This could also indicate depression and shouldn’t be taken lightly. 🏠At MacIntosh, among our many home-like amenities, we offer housekeeping + linen services, nutritious daily-prepared meals by our in-house chef, assistance with daily activities as needed and regularly scheduled social activities to take part in! 💻For more information, visit https://www.macintoshcompany.com/assisted-living/
