Hope this finds you enjoying a great summer!
Have a great weekend everyone as we take time to remember those who serve and those who served and gave their lives for us.
Last night, our President Carol, 1st Vice President Paula and Treasurer Pam enjoyed greeting everyone attending the Senior Center’s annual Christmas party by handing them a “goodie bag” prepared by the Oakdale Women’s Club. A very festive event enjoyed by one and all!
LulaMae Emporium is our special guest at our December holiday meeting and she's bringing some goodies for purchase...plan to join us!
We have a bake sale and a raffle, but that’s not all—we have LulaMae Emporium as our special guest and she’s bringing some select items from her store for purchase. Don’t miss out on the fun—call today for reservations—we’d love to see you!
At our November meeting, the OWC raffled and auctioned off 3 tables of donated items from our members (thank you members!), including 2 quilts donated by Tracey Boss, owner of Blossom Quilting, and by our President (and quilter) Carol Lyda. All proceeds from our raffle and silent auction will go to the Oakdale Children’s Guardian Home for Christmas gifts for the children.
Our November 1st luncheon features a raffle & silent auction to raise $$ to support a variety of giving OWC will be doing next year to support our community. We need your help with donations of gift baskets, gift cards or gift certificates. Perhaps you are a talented quilter, knitter, woodworker, crafter or professional shopper – really, donations of any value will be most gratefully received. All donations tax deductible. Contact Carol 209-985-4477.
We really got our pink on at today's meeting and raised $$ for the cancer society through donations and raffle. Pamela Kelly of the Oakdale Rescue Mission gave us some remarkable insight as to what this faith-based nonprofit organization does for the homeless and others in need in our community. Did you know churches and businesses can help out by providing sock collection barrels (they provide the sign). They also can use new or gently used men’s/ women’s jeans, t-shirts or casual shoes. Contact Pamela at (cell) 209-679-1394.
Get your pink on ladies! For those who made reservations - don't forget to wear some pink to this month's luncheon meeting in support of cancer awareness.
We now offer Colleen's Corner at our monthly luncheon meetings in memory of Colleen Cordano an active member of the OWC and Friends of the Library coordinating their book sales. Don't forget to bring your gently used books to next week's meeting to donate to Colleen's Corner. All proceeds go to the OWC's scholarship fund.
Last day to get your reservations in (209-848-2231). Our guest speaker is from the Oakdale Rescue Mission and they are in need of tube socks so we are asking that you bring a package of socks to the meeting to date to the mission.
Our October 4 luncheon meeting is dedicated to the patients and survivors of breast cancer with a reminder that early detection saves lives. Won’t you join us? For reservations, contact Karen (209) 848-2231.
We certainly enjoyed having Eduardo Hernandez Chavez and OWC member Ysuara Bernal Enrique as our guest speakers at our meeting yesterday. We were all engrossed in the memories Eduardo shared of his mother’s challenging life when her family immigrated to the US to escape the Mexican Revolution. From working in the fields as a child, to overcoming racism, to becoming a moving force to improve working conditions for farm workers (particularly women), Eduardo’s mother persevered. Having Ysuara read excerpts from the book was an added treat. We can’t thank them enough.
If did not make reservations to attend our September meeting - please put us on the calendar and plan to join us for our October 4 meeting!
